Introduction
In the workplace, most people desire to have a high level of productivity so that the goals and objectives can be attained. Various factors can influence productivity in the workplace. One of the key aspects that is vital in ensuring productivity within the workplace is communication. Communication ensures that information is passed from one person to another effectively. When there is effective communication within the workplace, it will be hard for the employees to understand each other, and this may affect the level of productivity. During such scenarios where there is difficulty in conversation in the workplace, appropriate measures must be undertaken.
Case Study
According to the case study presented, Tabatha Turman, the founder as well as the CEO of Integrated Finance and Accounting Solutions, which was a financial firm that has both governments as well as private clients, understood that she had a problem with a certain employee. Turman claims that the employees were a nice person, but the productivity level was below the expected level. Moreover, Turman says that this individual was not in the right position. Therefore Turman tried a lot of intervention to help these employees included working with a professional coach. After six months, Turman decides to be hard on the guy, and in this case, she prefers firing him.
On the one hand, Tabitha feared to deliver the news to the guy because she liked the person and understood about his family. On the other hand, Tabatha Turman understood that event though everybody played and role within the team, one weak link could bring the firm down. In this case, it is evident that there is difficulty in conversation within the workplace, and if measures are not taken, the productivity will be affected.
How to Handle the Situation Differently
The main way that this situation could be handled differently so that expectations, as well as concern, are communicated is to warn the employee. In this case, the employee will be told of what is expected of him in terms of productivity because it has been noted that it has been low (Knight, 2015). After that, the employee should be informed that failure to meet the required standards will result in job loss. In this case, the employee will understand what is expected of him, and if he does not achieve, there will be consequences. Also, since the employee may affect productivity in the workplace, it is important not to bring in emotions as this will make it difficult to talk with the employee.
Recommendation
The recommendation in this scenario is to have an informal conversation. Informal conversation is important because it mainly involves individuals who are friends or have a close relationship. In this case, it would be important as the CEO of the financial firm to build a close relationship with the employee so that it will be easy to interact. This situation will help to create a ground where it will be easy to communicate any information to the employee. In this case, the employee will understand better what is expected of him and will work towards achieving set goals and objectives. Also, having an informal conversation with the employee will show that the CEO cares about him, and there is no need to lose the job. In this case, the employee because he feels that the CEO is concerned about him, will be motivated, thus will work harder.
