Introduction
As one of the greatest survivor of domestic violence and ex-employee of a domestic violence shelter, Emi Koyama is identified to be having one of the first-hand experience with the abuse and the exclusion of power within the shelter system that was in place in order to empower survivors. From the story, she plays an important role by employing the personal stories of historical data and women in a shelter in articulating the need of emphasizing harm reduction, restructuring of the shelter system and balance of power rather than the utopian structure of radical-feminist.
From the story, a telephone is ringing at a feminist domestic violence shelter, and an employee ends up picking the call. To facilitate the general communication the first thing that happened was that there was a request for an Arabica English translator just to facilitate efficiency in communication. "This made the worker end up calling in a telephone translation service" (Koyama). From the call, the migrant plays an important role by identifying herself as one great immigrant who had come to the United States two years ago, and in the period of two years, he had never left her house by herself. Today she was making a call from a local clinic, where during this period; she had to seek out an emergency medical care for most of the injuries which were resulted from husband buttery just the night before. The main issue, in this case, is that she is afraid for her safety hence this is creating great worry. Question rise on how she will be taking care of herself financially? a where he will go? Can she go back or can she go back or can even stay in this country. From the article, the worker went ahead in screening her.
Much focus is dwelling on the theme of abuse of power and control that is existing within the feminist movement against domestic violence, with a major focus on power imbalance between workers the survivors who are receiving services and workers who are providing the services. From the story, it is important to note that the feminist movements have gone through a lot by struggling to confront control abuse with and abuse of power. The work of art focuses on power imbalance that is between the worker and individuals in place to offer the services and survivors who are receiving the service.
The book is a clear reminder of energy, person, insight, and anger to an injustice that has ended up to take a back seat to various social justice issues which majorly focus on the violence that is perpetrated on women of color. From the writing, it creates a comprehensively in historical, unyielding and great insight. It's amazing that the book has reminded the reader on some of the anti-violence movement, with one having a great risk of fading more women and women of power. Consistently, the article is clear hence bringing a discussion on the significance of and some of the strategies around the movement to some of the communities of color, more so the radical women of color, when it comes to the shared struggles when it comes to the issue of the struggle for liberation.
Conclusion
From the story, my argument is that in the Disloyal to Feminism, Emi Koyan comes out as a great fighter and possible ramification of locating women of color, specifically women of color who have basically gone through a lot to a level of being criminalized by the state. On the other hand, it is also important to note that violence in form of the criminal justice system has no chance of offering true safety for women, specifically women of color when it has a direct implication on the violence that is faced by women.
