My fellow citizens, as they say 'prevention is better than cure'. As an American citizen I stand before you because I know and understand that this nation cannot go on ignoring the issue of illegal migration and that is why we need to implement the comprehensive Immigration reform law. According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), there are approximately 12.5 million illegal aliens in our country and the number has been increasing since 1971. This is a great number of people living in the shadow and signifies a huge problem that we should address intelligently and urgently. Most of them obey our laws but they broke it by entering our borders illegally. They come to look for better pasture in our land, most of them are not professional and therefore they clean our offices, homes or take care of our children. Legalization of authorized illegal immigrants and border enforcement is not enough, we need comprehensive effort to successfully curb illegal immigration in America.
The time has come for us to say the truth whether we like it or not. Immigrants break the law by entering into our nation illegally. According to Light, Lopez, anvd Gonzalez-Barrera illegal immigration is a crime and anyone found should be prosecuted. Many of us try to apologize with these offenders without knowing the harm they cause to our nation (Light, Lopez, and Gonzalez-Barrera, 54). Illegal immigration drains public funds that would be used to develop our nation. The National Academy of Sciences carried out a research that proved that taxes paid by immigrants are not enough to cover the expenditure of services they receive such as healthcare, quality education among others. This deficit is covered by the government with public revenue and therefore they live at the expense of American citizens and other legal immigrants. According to FAIR estimates, there are 12.5 million illegal aliens in America (Federation for American Immigration Reform). This is a worrying number of people since they increase the net population of our country. If something is not done now, our population will continue to grow dramatically. There are large numbers of children who get enrolled in schools every day causing crowding in school classrooms. Illegal aliens have occupied all affordable houses in all states. They are making it hard for us since we are spending most of our time searching for affordable houses to stay. They are also causing strain on precious resources such as energy, water, and forestland. Illegal aliens are desperate for any job at any pay and this cause the average wage to decrease. Nowadays, citizens with a degree are paid poorly when working for long hours due to the availability of cheap labor. Terrorism is a threat to human life and should be prevented at all costs. According to a risk analysis conducted by Alex Nowrastech, aliens who entered our bodies illegally were responsible for 88 % of deaths committed by terrorists from 1975 to 2015 (Nowrasteh, 4). We all remember the 9/11 terrorist attack which was committed in 2001 by an alien. The federal government should ensure that is a proper screening of aliens who come into the country.
Illegal aliens should be deported. According to Hagan, Jacqueline, David Leal, and Nestor Rodriguez page 375, the law is very clear on illegal aliens under Immigration and Nationality Act section 237(a)(1)(B) and it states that "Any alien who is present in the United States in violation of this Act or any other law of the United States is deportable." One should be taken to court and proof that he or she is a documented immigrant and if that fails to be the case he or she should be deported. These efforts should ensure that illegal aliens do not obtain public assistance benefits, public housing, employment, public education or other taxpayer-funded services without being detected. To curb these problem immigration authorities should make sure that only those who are staying in America legally get houses and enroll their children in schools. The citizens should ensure people who clean, cook or take care of their children are documented. Screening Illegal aliens is not enough stricter border enforcement and should avoid legalization of authorized immigrants since they may cause terrorist attacks in our country
If the government fails to act now, the population of our nation will increase by a million every year. According to (FAIR 2017), illegal aliens increase by half a million every year from 1971 and if this is not stopped our population will shoot beyond any control. We all know the impact on the high population in a country. Children who are born in our country are not receiving the quality education because of the increase in teacher students' ratios. There will be poor public housing, health care services and other taxpayer-funded services due to increased demand. Our wages will also continue to decline and soon professionals will be earning like high school graduates.
Congress must amend and pass the comprehensive Immigration Reform act. According to FAIR, the act increases border enforcement only allowing workers needed by the labor market but allows for the legalization of all illegal immigrants which is a major issue. We only hear of the demagogue about immigration but if we do not impose these strict border restrictions it will get worse day after day. Authorized aliens are approximately 12.5 million and making them legal citizens would mean increasing the population of our nation. This would cause crowding in school classrooms, strain in healthcare service provision, and public housing among others. The Congress should pass the Comprehensive Immigration Reform but should amend a section of the legalization of unauthorized aliens.
Conclusion
As I conclude, to curb illegal immigration, comprehensive efforts must be enforced. These efforts should ensure that illegal aliens do not obtain public assistance benefits, public housing, employment, public education or other taxpayer-funded services without being identified. The Congress should, therefore, make amendments on the Comprehensive Immigration reform to remove the part on legalizing authorized aliens because this would pose a huge burden to our nation.
