Introduction
Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the vapor that comes from electronic cigarettes. The use of e-cigarettes is rising in the world; hence, there is a concern whether the e-cigarettes are safe to use and the effects they cause to the health of the victim. Technology has influenced the lifestyle that people live; hence, people are embracing e-cigarettes when compared to traditional medicine. Technology influences smoking, and there are differences between the e-cigarettes and the traditional cigarettes. People are quitting the traditional forms of cigarettes to embrace e-cigarettes; hence the increased concerns of the health because it's believed that the e-cigarettes have more health effects when compared to traditional cigarettes.
Technology influences smoking by facilitating the turning of the tobacco into vapor; hence, the smoker absorbs the inhaled tobacco easily. Technology facilitates vaping by making smoking more convenient for smokers. Technology facilitates the processing of tobacco being smoked by producing fine vapor that the smoker inhales (Duong and Jiaying 26). Technology has changed the smoking because the e-cigarette producers have the opportunity to make e-cigarettes that have different components of tobacco. The differentiation of the different components of tobacco makes the e-cigarettes more harmful to smokers because of the components of tobacco each different effects on the health of the smoker. In most instances, smokers embrace different flavors.
Among the ways that technology has influenced vaping is that people embrace technology in order to be seen as modern. The smokers are less concerned with the health effects brought by the technology (Duong and Jiaying 27). Technology has made smoking convenience for smokers to smoke in wherever they may be; therefore, they smoke e-cigarettes more than other forms of cigarettes are consumed. The convenience increases the addiction among smokers, which is not a good thing. Technology has influenced vaping by making more people embrace e-cigarettes. The more technology continues to advance; the more people will become addicted.
Technology has also enabled flavors to be incorporated in the cigarettes, and the stakeholders in the health industry have raised the alarm of the health risks brought by the flavors. Smokers have the opportunities to choose the flavors that they like (Duong and Jiaying 28). The ministry of health, for instance, in United States, have banned flavored e-cigarettes because of the health effect they have to the smokers. Technology allows the e-cigarettes making the company the opportunity to have chemicals that had the flavor and the chemicals have health challenges to the patients. Health professionals are advocating for a total ban of the e-cigarettes to stop the health harm that they bring to the patients.
E-cigarette technology has been evolving, thereby making vaping a growing industry. Vaping is both fashionable and is a perfect transition to nonsmoking. People prefer vaping to smoking because it is not as prohibited as smoking. Also, vaping can be done discreetly because of the evolution of devices used (Rodriguez). The devices, however, have led to increased potential hazards. The devices come in different shapes and sizes.
The consumers indicate that the e-cigarettes help them to stop smoking cigarettes but what they may not be aware of is that the devices they use as well as the products are not thoroughly standardized. It is not clear what the devices are made of. Initially, the devices were designed to generate high wattage, but they have evolved to those that produce a large amount of vapor. The substances filled in these devices are believed to be harmful. Advancement in vaping technology has given rise to devices that have increased heat and the chemicals which are harm organs such as lungs ( 1778). The aerosols inhaled may be contaminated with harmful metals that have made the devices.
Lung illnesses have increased in the United States among vapers. Researchers are scrutinizing the liquids filled in the vaping devices as well as the constituents of the devices. Approximately 1500 lung illnesses have been identified in 2019, and all are related to vaping. Some of these people have died from the disease (Rodriguez).
The first vaping device was introduced in 2006 and was referred to as cigalikes since they looked like cigarettes. They were disposable, and the amount of nicotine filled in them was moderate. The devices evolved to vape pens which were refillable and had more power which helped in speeding up heatingof the electronic liquid. The third-generation vaping devices are referred to as mods and are viewed as a great technological development to the vaping culture. These devices enable the consumers to alter how it works; hence, the reason why they are using in competition. The user can alter the heating elements, the battery, and the e-liquid, so it is possible to adjust it in a manner that facilitates the production of more cloud aerosol ((Rodriguez).
Nicotine is the primary substance in these devices, and it is harmful to one's health. The extreme heating of the liquid can also be harmful as it causes thermal decomposition. Thermal decomposition leads to pulling apart of the components creating chemicals such as formaldehyde which is a cancer-causing agent. The vaping technology has also increased pulmonary as well as neurological diseases (Etter 1781)
