Characters Interpretation of the Crime Scene Essay

The scene occurs at Mr. and Mrs. Wright's house where men and women arrive at different points following the information that Mr. Wright, John could have died. John is murdered however it is not clearly known at first the reason behind the murder. Besides, nobody apart from the wife, Minnie could have the clue regarding the murder of the husband. The characters in this scene are generally categorized into two groups based on their roles and the manner in which they approach the analysis and interpretation of the situation. The distinct groups are made of men and women on two distinct sides. The ability of the men and women to understand the situation varied significantly and this was influenced by their already individual role in the society. The prejudgment that there is superior gender was a considerable problem interpreting the situation among the men.

Women carried out a successful investigation because they were patient enough and did not disregard any phenomenon which would be related to the clue concerning the murder of Mr. Wright. According to Al-Khalili (133), the wife of the murdered individual refused to inform the investigating team that he was attached to the act and rather argued that she was asleep when her husband was killed. This called for the need for a thorough investigation where men appeared to have different roles and approaches to the exercise, to those of women. The female individuals soon got evidence that the wife killed the husband just in the kitchen where the males argued that had the "kitchen things." This is probably due to the notion that the environment associated with the women cannot be important in any way.

The women argued that Mr. Wright has been abusing the wife and so she killed him because she could not withstand depression hence she resolved to kill him. The wives had to confuse the situation that their fellow woman would be safe from facing the law for having committed such a crime. This would however been a different case among the men who would have pushed for the punishment of the killer (Al-Khalili 134). The wives consulted themselves and agreed on a common suggestion that Minnie had suffered a serious abuse at the hands of her husband. They argued that they understand how they would feel when oppressed by their husbands. Since they feel sympathy for her, as opposed to men, they proceed to hide evidence against her and end up spared the tragedy which might have followed.

The successful role of the women was influenced by the emotion they developed after the occurrence in the house. The men, on the other hand, demonstrated an emotionless exercise and could not find evidence against the killer. Mhayyal (28) argued that the wives were concerned with the investigation and therefore succeeded in the exercise. The sympathy that the two female characters had for Minnie enabled them to understand the motive behind her action. As a result, they became able to carry out the investigation properly. The men are however blinded by their focus on basing their investigation on related materials.

Conclusion

The men's reluctance is the key to their failure as the women succeed in understanding the situation and ending up protecting their fellow woman. Men focused their search on the sections of the house which were associated with men's dominance (Mhayyal 24). Moreover, their investigations were not detailed keep on moving from place to place within the house. The women, on the other hand, were keen and took every point seriously and were able to discover evidence.
