Cannabis is obtained from cannabis plant which is also referred to as cannabis sativa. It can be used in different forms such as marijuana, hashish and hash oil. It is usually smoked and can also be made inaudible products. Cannabis is mostly used by the adolescent (individual between the ages 10 to 24 according to world health organization definition). A little number of adolescent people are not aware that cannabis is harmful and become addicted to it. They experience a sense of mild euphoria and a form of relaxation.
Some states in the United States have legalized recreational cannabis to be used by the person aged 21 years and older. The states have come with ways to inform health policies by examination of cannabis use amongst its population that has potentially harmful effects majority being the adolescents. The use of cannabis has a harmful impact on the users and contributes greater interference in neural, social, and academic performance on the process of adolescence and later development periods.
For the nation to legalize the use of cannabis, they should consider the health of adolescence since they are the most affected. Although there is no study has been carried out to prove the change of cannabis use is related to legalization, other changes are restricted as a result of current metrics including patterns of behavior in this group, types of cannabis being used and modes of delivery and modes of obtaining it, and finally the risk associated with its use such as school disruption , changes in employment pattern an accidents .There are a lot of measures that need to be assessed to address the relationship between the state policy and adolescence health including, what increases the cannabis use among the youth, how do the changes in cannabis advertising affect the adolescence, how is the policy affect the general behavior for the users and what are the solutions and recommendations.
In addition, the research of cannabis among the adolescent have got several difficulties that hinder the scientific process, and this include there is heterogeneity without precedent among the drug classes, there is limited timeline that is required to answer key and significant research questions, finally, examination of the nature of cannabis used in a sample that is not necessarily used in legal adds that is an additional layer of practical complexity. Evaluation to inform future legislation and patient care have become a priority as the lawmakers and general public assesses the virtue of any proposed legislation and reduces the general effect that the adolescent will experience as a result of the legalization of cannabis. All the stakeholders including pediatricians, schools, etc. should come up with solutions and recommendation to make the youth aware and counsel the adolescence within this constraints.
