The object considered for the following essay is a book called Dinamo-Azari Depero Futurista or the bolted book. This book is considered an object because it is a three-dimensional object and is also an artifact by itself. It was created by an Italian futurist Fortunato Depero. The Bolted Book was made in 1927. It communicates the perspective and thoughts of the societies and cultures that created them. Therefore, Depero Futurista is considered a masterpiece of three-dimensional work of art.
The Depero Futurista is by itself a portable museum and a calling card. Therefore, any part of a museum can be associated with it effectively. The book exhibits the works of Fortunato Depero, including various paintings, architectural drawings, sculptures, the various textile, manifestos, reviews, and advertisements. A deeper perspective would reveal the works of the Italian artists comprising of his skills as the typographical professional in art. As a book, it is rectangular in form, utilizes the horizontal and vertical lines, and the general view makes it even more expressive. It is blue in color at its cover and uses a geometric shape. The book is symmetrical in balance and has an actual texture. It takes the regular man-made pattern and also has a regular rhythm.
The book comprises of 240 pages, made of regular paper, secured by two large bolts close to one edge. When removed, the bolts allow for the pages to be removed individually, returned, rearranged differently, or arranged in different series for individual exhibitions. Even though the cover has blue as the primary color, it has some circle shapes, squares, and triangles, with different colors and textures such as white and black, which exhibit the author’s intention of re-shaping the universe. The book has been used for showcasing and advertising various pieces of art by Fortunato Depero.
The book works by turning the pages to view the various pieces of art on the individual page. It is still in production and is still used conspicuously by the public. The key users of Depero Futurista include the wider audience interested in the author’s skills and life. The users do not have specific demographic characteristics as they could be located anywhere in the world for as long as they can get a copy of the book. Those who use the book are not limited to social class, income, gender, ability, or age. However, the audience should have a sense of art to understand the various creations of the author.
Fortunato Depero was the designer of the book, intending to have his pieces of art exposed to the public. Some of the copies of the book are made of metal on the front and back covers. Most of the copies are made of colored cardstock for the covers. Other materials utilized in the book include nuts, cotter pins, and aluminum bolts. The book was produced through printing in Italy. The book was first printed uniquely for specific users in the same region it was created.
Today, the book does not utilize metal in the front and back covers, but the copies have textured and colored cardstock in the covers. Previous copies did not also have a table of contents page and the various page numbers. These components are present in contemporary copies. The use and users of the book have not changed over time as the primary audience consists of individuals interested in the author's art.
Le Bifur and Depero Futurista are unique art pieces. However, while the Depero Futurista emphasizes on art through visuals and words, Le Bifur emphasizes art through letters and fonts. Depero Futurista expresses the existing skills and ideas by Fortunato Depero whereas Le Bifur expresses new ideas, concepts, and skills through the designs of the alphabet shapes such as the interior space in the letter D. The two objects appeal to the same taste and the same audience as they are both expressive of unique art.
