Why I chose this article related to ethic.
Computer scientists have developed robots whose aim is to engage people and finally teach them on basic and simple skills. The robots will bring ease in most of the schools but what will most people think regarding its ethical use. The ethical concerns raised concerning robot teachers calls for a deep analysis of the use of robots. This article is relevant to me since it will help in finding out whether the use of robots has more ethical issues that might allow its introduction in class or not.
Overview of the article:
This article discusses on the advancements that are made regarding the use of robots in society. Robots have become so advanced to the point of taking over the social roles of peoples lives. The researcher in the article points the reason why there is need to define the extent that robots should be used. The review on the use of robots in Japanese classroom shows that the idea of robot teachers is still a science fiction and the current abilities of robots are still far from operating autonomously. There is a need to find evidence and research on the effectiveness of robots teachers as compared to human teachers. The article also points out that there is a need for research on the extent to which children can trust and believe in robots.
Ethical concerns about robot teachers.
Who will be responsible for teaching robots ethics? There is need to determine whether ethical concerns are to be considered before introducing robot teachers even if the idea makes financial sense. What if knowledge based jobs become extinct? Will it be possible to allow a robot to make its own decision? Will the robot have a chance of voting? Vivek Wadwa. Director of research, Duke University.
How will robots teachers handle data that are considered to be private? Robots have a high chances of breaching privacy of individuals. Robot have the ability of collecting individual information through sensors therefore making its use an ethical concern.
Will teacher robots have the ability to provide proper care to the students? Introduction of robot teachers in schools will raise concerns on the loss of human touch towards students that is currently being provided by the human teachers. The robot teachers do not have the ability to interact with students with a precise care.
