The article explores on compassion fatigue that nurses experience when exposed to trauma and death cases in Hospice nursing healthcare. Hospice nursing is a significant segment of healthcare since it provides quality care to a patient's end of life. However, the work provided by nurses is difficult since it involves dealing with pain, suffering, and loss of life. As a result, it affects them physically and emotionally leading to low staff satisfaction, high turnover rates and low care quality as well as diminished capacity to enjoy life. Carroll (2017) used a post-program evaluation survey design and targeted 10 Registered Nurses and 2 Licensed Practical Nurses to complete the study. The article is useful as it tries to provide a solution to the underlying problem by providing an educational intervention program to help nurses gain knowledge and understanding of the compassion fatigue.

One of the big concepts that almost all nurses have is compassion. However, they are easily exposed to the risk of compassion fatigue leading to decreased productivity. Decreased productivity leads to negative impacts of the safeness and satisfaction of the patient. To solve the issue, the article developed three themes including self-care, social connection and support organization which helped solve the issue and raised awareness among nurses. The article utilized database information such as Pub-Med, OVID, Academic Search Elite and CINAHL in getting reliable and higher quality collections. It also utilized a qualitative study consisting of 20 nurses in different healthcare organizations to measure how different themes can be effective in preventing compassion fatigue. The findings indicated the essence of self-care, social connection and support organization as a way of solving the issue.

Working in a stressful environment like in the ICU, affect the emotional stability of nurses. This may cause most of them to prematurely leave the job in order to preserve their health. As a result, it threatens the life of patients by interfering with their care quality. The findings indicated a wide percentage of 40% from the 14, 770 respondents of nurses that were under compassion fatigue and burnout. Due to this, the article suggests on communication skills, ethical rounds, and mindfulness as a way to intervene with the problem.
