Introduction

For as long as I can remember, I have always dreamt of joining the cardiovascular perfusion program. In as much as other people see the experimentation, engineering, and presentation of cardiovascular perfusion as a chore, I view it as an exciting venture which will be a central instrument of the stones which I will use to find and build myself. As a child, I always sought in a way that I could help impact people's lives in the field of nursing with a primary objective of saving lives and putting a smile on people's faces. I felt that through doing this, I would directly be part of the mission that restores happiness in people's lives. In this regard, I developed a passion for science-related projects which fascinated me on many occasions. I joined the first aid club, and particular joy grew within me because of the fascination with directly saving people's lives.

Things began to become more interesting when I met Jackson, a 52-year-old, who had experienced multiple heart attacks and had undergone some numerous surgeries before joining the rehab program. This was when I had followed my passion and joined the nursing profession and was working as a nurse. Having experienced the weight of the work that doctors experienced in the theatre rooms while undertaking surgeries of cardiovascular patients, I felt that I needed to be part of this fascinating mission. People who needed much help surrounded Jackson and they needed people who could understand their health struggle. The task, therefore, involved not just saving lives but also the hard work that is put in the work.

It is during one of these surgeries that I came to know that a cardiovascular percussionist performs the critical role of focusing on supporting the normal functions of the heart and lungs during open-heart surgery. I also realized that this role is compassionate because the life of the patient entirely depends on it during the operation. According to Dutkowski, et.al (2015), many patients end up losing their lives because of lack of skills in this field. I also realized that cardiovascular perfusion allows the heart to be stopped to facilitate a cardiac surgery.

When enrolled in the program, I will be in an excellent position to pursue this cause and expand more knowledge about what it is all about. The program will also give me an opportunity to be in a position to work independently, and this will enable me to achieve job satisfaction. Onan, et.al (2012) adds that the career is unique since cardiovascular perfusionists are central members of the open surgical teams. Being part of the program would allow me to develop essential care experiences and skills which I will use in a new and exciting manner. I will, therefore, work on taking it to the next level.

Accordinty to Topol and Teirstein (2015)the mission of Cardiovascular Perfusion Program is to develop highly trained, professional perfusionists who are in a position to perform clinical perfusion successfully to meet the specialized needs of Cleveland Clinic's heart and Vascular Institute. In line with this, the program will provide me with an opportunity to value and comprehend the medical profession and recognize the path that is best for me. The nursing profession is not for the faint-hearted. In this regard, I am therefore unable to wait for the opportunity to take a tour of the demanding, yet satisfying pathway to becoming a cardiovascular perfusionist.
