Introduction
It was an enjoyable experience being present in reality as opposed to watching it on the television. On November 22, the House of Blues hall held traditional and jazz performances. The event, which took place on the evening of 22nd, presented me with an opportunity to be part of the congregation and played a significant role in accomplishing my assignment. Among the attendance were a handful of students from my class and local citizens. This live performance has been an all-year phenomenon, but I only managed to attend this year. Jazz Ensemble legends performed jazz and folk songs. It was during this concert when 'Arirang,' a folksong with eastern culture origin, was completed. With traditional Korean clothes, the performers assumed duty and perfumed this folk song.
The performance changed rapidly. Sixteen rapid variation note opened the stage. The notes were formed by saxophones, clarinets, and temple blocks during the start of the performance before the whole group harmonized. These notes were played uniformly for the best part of the concert. This performance marked Vivace. The band marking Larghetto performed the second variation. The initial section of the variation was played by a solo play and terminated with a solo oboe. A repetition of this was done until the band reached the peak. The band subsequently performed descending the whole band scale, reaching the end of the variation. The next variation was played with the help of brass and woodwinds in collaboration with a sequence of chords, marking So-tenuto. The other variation began differently compared to the rest, much quicker with long and high solo. Flutes and brass were the tools used to play the second part of the variation, respectively. A wave of excitement arose as the music was approaching the peak.
Among the songs played were 'Autumn in New York' and 'Blue Velvet.' Two performers, with choreographs depicting true lovers, passionately danced as the saxophone and the piano interchanged the melody. This ultimately created a romantic atmosphere. The keyboard and the saxophone, in collaboration with other music tools, altered the taste of the music. The rhythm increased drastically from the start to the time when the climax was reached. At the climax, the sound of the songs was going up. As the performers winded up the song, there was a dynamic change of levels. Guest trumpeter played 'Autumn in New York.' The extended solos were played by pianist, bassist, saxophonist, and trumpeter. Harmon mute was used by one of the performers while another changing to the flute. The performers now maintained harmony until the end. The piano and the trumpet produced a polyphonic texture. The song exhibited a bright and happy melody at the beginning. The atmosphere changed to a relaxing and cool atmosphere. The performers involved the audience in singing the songs.
This was my first time in my life to attend a live music performance. The atmosphere of the music brought by the jazz music and the songs were enjoyable. The passion of the performers made the concert look livelier. The Korean folk depicts the warrior songs that took place in ancient times. By the end of the show, I was musically intellectual. I had the opportunity to learn the diversity of music; different genres of music exist out there. Getting to know this grants me an unrestricted world view and an open mindset - the folk song composed of numerous jazz music genre. I had the opportunity to learn various kinds of music. My assertion that jazz and folk concerts are not entertaining took a new direction. After the show, I now have a comprehensive understanding of these genres of music.
Music is more than the rhythm. Music is not only meant for entertainment but also in explaining and addressing other aspects like culture, love, among others. These aspects are either expressed through the words in the song or through the choreography by the performers. Observers' focus should be the message behind the choreography. The perfumer's involvement of the audience is very critical. Involvement draws the full attention of the audience.
Additionally, music can be symbolic. The clothes that the perfumers wear, the type of dancing style, and the choice of words can be significant. The concert also taught me that music should be passionate about it. The passion of the performers had a substantial effect on the audience. The more passionate the performer, the more attentive and cooperative the audience.
Music is a source of knowledge. The audience is presented with an opportunity to learn a lot. For instance, some songs contain words that are very educative, teaching either about a particular phenomenon, moral values, or even a way of expression. Music has different genres. A live performance can help you understand these genres. When performing live music, different songs from different cultures should be performed to break the monotony. Continuous dynamic variation should also be applied to avoid boredom of the audience. Creative in music is of great importance. The success of the concert lies in your ability to produce creative work; through the choice of words, dressing, and choreography. There is a specified chronology of events in music to maintain a smooth flow. Music can mean a lot of things. The performers were fantastic together with their instruments. This live performance has shaped my love and passion for music.
