Introduction

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) such as gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia for a while have not been considered big health issues, but according to the report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is a rising rate of STDs. The report published in 2007 indicates that there are approximately 2.3 million Americans with cases of STDs (Belluz, 2018). The report further states that the high numbers of people being infected with STDs are youth within the age groups of 15 to 24 years (Belluz, 2018). These cases have prompted the campaign to combat the rising rates of STDs among the young generation in health care facilities, communities, and in the nation in general. This paper, therefore, seeks to lay out a campaign strategy that will focus on the youth between 15 to 24 years.

With the advancement of technology, it is apparent that the young generations are growing up in a digital society and the internet is part and parcel of their daily lives. The best campaign strategy to target the young age would, therefore, be through the online sources such as websites, the online mobile apps, and social media through YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp. It is therefore essential to create a campaign through the online sources that will create awareness of the dangers of STDs, transmission, and preventive measures to avoid STDs infections. It is also important to note that the young generation prefers motion graphics information and thus interactive computer animations would be appropriate tools of communication. The online campaign will also help spread essential details such as the side effects of STDs to the human health, encourage the young population to get tested and offer some health facilities where they can get tested, and provide simulations that will help the young community protect themselves against the STDs, and for those already suffering from it, avoid transmission.

However, this campaign may face challenges such as stigma from the youth who are already affected because most of them shy off from exposing their status. There is also limited access to free clinics where the young population can be tested because of the reduced funding. Various online sources such as dating apps promote free and sex among the youth that may be preferred to this campaign strategy. It is also alarming that not everyone has access to free internet where they can access this information.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this online campaign seeks to address the dangers of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) such as syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. The campaign will focus on the side effects of these STDs to human health, and provide valuable information on how to avoid contracting and transmitting the infections. This campaign will target the youth because of their affiliation to the internet, and this provides a forum where a large population can be reached in a short time.
