Introduction
Workplace sexual assault involves unwelcome sexual advances to the colleagues without the consent of the other. Such behaviors, which could be written, verbal or physical, makes an individual feel humiliated or offended. Since I am planning to open a healthcare facility, sexual harassment within the industry is a huge concern for the progress of my business. Understanding the forms of sexual abuse will help unveil its implications and preventive measures. There are five types of sexual assaults, which are verbal, visual, physical, psychological, and non-verbal sexual assaults. Oral harassments involve offensive teasing, remarks, and comments, while non-verbal abuse might include sexual gestures. Physical assaults, which have elevated effects on the offended party, involves rape, which is the most advanced level of sexual assaults. Others might include visual exposure of offensive photos, and psychological which involves undesired social invitations and proposals. Implications of sexual harassment within an institution could lead to not only expensive lawsuits to the firm but also detrimental physical and mental health problems to the victim. As a sexual assault survivor, I have a responsibility to educate my employees on the effects of sexual harassment and advocate for equality and respect within the institution.
Reports on sexual assaults in the workplace reveal that over 52% of women have been abused sexually in the United States. The figures are on the rise, with more cases being reported and fewer prosecutions conducted. Personally, from experience, I can tell that sexual assault is a burden to an individual with low self-esteem, which hinders performance. Women are the vulnerable gender to sexual assaults. The implications of sexual assaults on women are detrimental to their employers, which leads to career interruptions and even lower earnings. In the healthcare industry, the old-school idea of allowing doctors to abuse healthcare personnel, such as nurses, are no longer justifiable. As the business owner, I will implement policies that will curb such behaviors and document incidence reporting mechanisms. Patients frequently harass nurses and other healthcare professionals. It is normal today for a healthcare professional to be hit or abuse both verbally and physically in emergency rooms and other departments. Dementia patients in emergency rooms, however, might not be responsible for their behavior, but measures will be taken in my healthcare facility to curb sexual assaults. Therefore, while some actions might be considered offensive, sexual harassment falls in the grey area. Unwelcome behavior is the only consideration of sexual assault, and my healthcare facility will never tolerate such practices to protect my employees.
Problems Faced While Opening a Health Insurance Company
A health insurance company, just like any business in the economy, faces challenges. The primary challenge to overcome as a business is to raise funds. Capital is a crucial part of the company since it is used in funding key projects. Lack of funding means that the company will delay in rolling out projects and even hiring key personnel responsible for various tasks in the organization. To overcome these challenges, I will need to analyze my sources of funding to minimize losses critically. I might source funds from bank loans since my credit card history is positive or bootstrapping.
Another challenge that I should overcome is hiring skilled personnel. Hiring these employees is a challenge that I will face in my health insurance company, and planning to combat the problem is inevitable. The process of hiring skilled staff will begin with a thorough recruitment process. In the exercise, I will target multitalented labor, which will decrease the costs of labor and allow for flexibility, thereby increasing my company's profits. I will network with community leaders, build a robust industrial network, and aim for younger employees to maximize the benefits of skilled employees in the market. Lastly, the business location is another health insurance problem that I have to overcome. The importance of business location cannot be understated since research shows that it's a vital factor in business success. The right business location will attract the right talent and a targeted customer base. Since the challenge is viable, I will overcome it by conducting market research on health insurance customer needs within the business location I selected. The position will help build a brand of the company leading to consistent traffics and revenue generation.
