Introduction
Past, present, and future of mass media consists of three generations. In these generations, different means of communication got used to obtain information. In the past, which gets referred to as the first generation, oral communication was the primary medium of communication. This is passing information from one person to another. Traditional consist of newspapers, magazines, newsletters, billboards, scholarly journals, fliers, and pamphlets. Other conventional media include electronic media such as movies, radio, audio recording, televisions, and video recording.
The first and second generations differ. In the second generation, that is the generation we are in. We use the internet in browsing websites, browsing the web on the phone, and browsing social media. Whereas in the first generation that is the past generation, there was a generation known as magazine generation. In this generation, people were believed to read magazines frequently. The other age was the television generation, where people watched the television often to obtain information.
Secondly, in the generation we are living now, social media is used by many people to advertise products. Hence many people access the information quickly and go ahead on enquiring about the products, and some end up purchasing the products if the product meets their desire. Compared to the previous generation where the advertisement gets posted in newspapers. The information was not easily accessible to many people since many of them did not have the knowledge to read and write.
The internet is building more powerful societies and communities around the world. Social networks, mobile apps, and online services are playing a significant role in online education. Through online learning, students can research what they don't understand. This has positively contributed to making studies easy. Another role played by social media is unity. Many people from different parts of the world and diverse backgrounds interact in the Face book creating friendship, and in many cases, some meet their spouses through social media.
The last role played by online services is awareness. This of the state of being aware, being conscious of the dangers of things you are about to do like the awareness of what spreads coronavirus. Therefore I wish to recommend people from the previous generation to learn about it since it the fastest medium of communication. It is also fun. Meeting new friends on social media can also run a business online, which is easy to manage. Reading online is also easy.
The internet has allowed us to express ourselves than in the previous generation. We can share every personal experience on Face book. We can start expressing our talents through writing so that we can get followers from all over the world. We can post our photography skills on Instagram, and we can also use silly emojis as we chat with friends. The internet has also played the role of the business world. An international organization can now manage businesses scattered in different countries. People can now work from home, thanks to the internet.
The internet has also contributed to global mass communication in different ways like, I can communicate with my friend in Ethiopia via video call chat or email. In the future, data will power everything. That means that everything you wish to do will fall in its place since data is in control. You will be able to purchase all the good things you desire, just like classic cars and other machines and electronics, because the data already knows what is best for you. Isn't it amazing?
Bad things and good things will happen via the internet. You will be able to buy classic clothes, shoes and many more. You will also get a chance to eat in the best hotels, drive the best cars and live in the best houses. The internet will also help the rich remain richer. This is because of the data everywhere, and people get forced to open accounts to operate their day to day life. Everyone gets expected to use cyberspace. This will be a problem when it comes to people who like privacy. There will be no privacy, and hence there will be cases of theft since everyone will be able to access your personal information.
Smart services, which use artificial knowledge, will help in managing our work. One can establish a different type of business across the world and manage them easily without needing anyone to help him or her. The studies will also be more accessible. Since the data will be under control, we will not need tutors to take us through the lessons; hence we can do it for ourselves from. This will reduce the cost used in the previous generation to cater for education. I think the future will just be a world of fun. When one is ill, there will be no need to get tested so that the doctors can determine the medicine to be given. The data itself will show the disease.
In my view, I think the internet is the best channel so far. I would urge the people who have not yet experienced the internet to learn how to use it.
