Introduction
Working in the Interior Ministry is one of the most epic experiences in my life. The field itself has so much that one can learn apart from earning. The Interior Ministry is responsible and in control of numerous facets that relate to matters of the country. It is the mandate of the ministry to make national control emergencies, supervise local governments, conduct registration and ensure national security among other responsibilities. After finishing my University studies, I applied for a job in the Interior Ministry hoping to serve my country in one way or another. Having completed my studies at Tabuk University and attaining a Bachelor of History degree, I knew I was well equipped to serve in the civil service although I did not know where exactly. I was delighted when I got a chance to work in the Interior Ministry as this was one field of serving in the civil services.
The first was to work as a customer care attendant, and my primary task was to register women who wanted to apply for their identification cards. My devotion was not focused on the wages, but my passion for serving my country. I made sure that I assisted women in all ways even in the areas where they had to inquire information from a relative in case they had forgotten. I ensured that every person was satisfied with the services that I offered. The engagement with the women enabled me to learn a lot about diverse culture as well as social problems that they were facing. The previous customer care attendant who had been working before had misarranged most of the files and data was not well updated in the system. This issue triggered a big challenge when I had to confirm if some members were already registered or not. Others said they had previously registered, but they had not received their National Identification cards. I used all ways and means possible to ensure that everything was back in order. My efforts were not only noticed and appreciated by fellow workers but also by the people I was serving. It might have been a low position considering the many job positions and ranks in such a vital ministry. However, I realized that working in that position gave me an opportunity to serve many people as I had desired and also got to know a lot of information about them.
My engagement with the women helped me to identify various insecurity issues that had not been solved in some parts of the country. As they shared, I took an initiative of noting down these areas and approached one of the supervisors, requesting him to handle the list for consideration by the office that was responsible. To ensure that all the identification card records were proper and updated, I created printed out a list of citizens who IDs had been out and were not collected. This approach made it easier for me to serve new applicants and reduce the delay that was experienced before. In Saudi Arabia, most women are subjected to domestic abuse, but because of stigmatization, they are unable to report to the legal authority. My job enabled me to help such women in contacting the necessary legal authorities and also escape from their husbands who were abusing them. In addition to helping them, I also ensured that the information they gave me remained confidential for privacy considerations. My efforts were in line with the proposed 2030 policy regarding women`s rights. With this realization, I was more concerned about serving a civil servant to ensure that the plan comes to pass.
After working for five years, in helping women get their identification cards, I had covered and known everything that entailed the Interior Ministry. Because I have shown my devotion and passion in serving people, I was promoted and made the head of my department and started to work with the management. I acknowledged the promotion because I rose to a higher position where I could get more information on the challenges that people were facing. I was also making sure that all my followers conducted their work with integrity and honesty. I ensured that maximum cooperation was maintained even when serving other fellow citizens. Currently, I have been able to ensure that the customer service department in the Interior Ministry is the most effective one to the point that our seniors have recognized us. I believe that leadership and any form of service that one offers should be made out of devotion and passion. These attributes have enabled me to get to the position I am in. I also study a lot on my own on other aspects of being a public administrator. I use any credible source of information that I can find. However, I have come to learn that for me to be able to serve in higher positions still in the Ministry, I need to further my studies abroad. My dream is to serve my nation in a position of authority where I will be able to change and better many things. I believe that once I was further my studies, I will be in a position to serve my country better.
