Me: Hi Sandy, I understand you were present at the scene where a man was assaulted, and, therefore, a key witness?
Sandy: Yes, I was near the scene. I operate a taxi business and the incident happened in a parking yard where we wait for clients.
Me: Would you mind answering some questions from me?
Sandy: No
Me: When did the incident take place?
Sandy: On June 27, 2009, at around 3 am.
Me: Briefly describe what you saw
Sandy: Two men were coming out of the Lounge located at 100 street, 82 Avenue. However, just a few meters from the entrance they were approached by two other men and a woman. There was a verbal confrontation between the two groups. The two groups then headed to separate ways. The two men from the lounge walked away and sat on some concrete block nearly while the other group of two men and a woman headed the other way and disappeared. However, after a couple of minutes, they reappeared in a white car and quickly disembarked at the point the two men were seating. A quick but intense verbal confrontation ensued again before one of the two men seated on the concrete block was punched on the face by a man from the other group. The punch sent the victim to the hard-concrete ground where he hit his head. Meanwhile, the assaulting group ran back to their SUV and drove away. The victim writhed on the ground as if he was in severe pain.
Me: What were the perpetrators wearing?
Sandy: One of the men and the woman were in black and white jackets respectively. The second and third men were in black and white t-shirts respectively.
Me: Were they carrying any weapon?
Sandy: No, I did not see any weapon.
Me: Did you catch the number plates of the car?
Sandy: No, but I remember it was a white SUV with what looks like a carrier mounted on top.
Me: How long did the whole incident take?
Sandy: It happened so fast. It barely lasted three minutes.
Me: Can you describe the man who punched the victim?
Sandy: He is wearing a blue faded pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. He was medium built, average height, with broad shoulders. His skin color was brown and hair black. he had no beard nor mustache He was the one driving the car.
Interview Analysis
Sandy can be described as an honest and cooperative witness. He was at the exact scene where the incident happened and has volunteered to offer a detailed account of the events that happened. However, Sandy maintained a direct eye contact and gave a comprehensive and detailed account of the exact happenings. In some cases, witnesses who are willing to cooperative have hidden motives but in Sand's case, this is his area of operation. From Sandy's description of the incident, it appears as if the two groups had some earlier grudges before. The assaulting group could have been out on a revenge mission. This is because in both the confrontation cases, no item was stolen from the victim. In the second incident, the perpetrators only punched the victim and left in haste. They did not carry or used any weapons on their victim. Maybe their intention was to scare them or pass a message that they are more powerful. Further investigations would be required for a more comprehensive explanation.
