The first reason that Trump should build the border wall is that historically, illegal immigration has been associated with increase in crime and social dysfunction in the US society. According to Trump (19), illegal immigrants have caused an increase in robberies, rapes and drug trafficking in US. Building the Mexico border wall would greatly enhance America's ability to ensure that only legal immigrants are granted entry into the United States. Moreover, the wall will prevent illegal drugs and firearms from entering America through the border with Mexico. Barring illegal entry into the US is an important reason why Trump should build the wall, since it will make Americans safer within their country.

The second reason why Trump should build the border wall is to effectively implement social and economic reforms while safeguarding US resources. President Trump seeks to apply reforms in healthcare, energy, education, taxation, and environment, among other important sectors of the economy (72-80). However, illegal immigration has historically been a stumbling block towards economic reforms, as illegal immigrants consume limited resources that would ordinarily be used by Americans. Sectors such as healthcare are most affected, as a huge proportion of the health budget is spent catering for the health needs of illegal immigrants. Building the border wall will ensure that American resources are not spent on illegal immigrants, and this will complement Trump's efforts to revamp the economy.

Finally, the third reason why Trump should build the wall is that he needs to fulfil the campaign promises that he made to the electorate. History has shown that US presidents with wide support from the masses are usually successful in their terms. According to Lakoff (2-3), President Trump was elected due to support from groups such as pragmatic conservatives, laissez-faire marketers, and white evangelicals. One of his main campaign promises was addressing the issue of illegal immigration through building a wall along the Mexican border.
