Introduction

Water is life (Flynn 12). That simple three-word sentence is more important than people realize. Two-thirds of our bodies constitute water, most of the earth's surface is covered by water, and we cannot live without water (Kane 6). Indeed, the existence of the world and all we can see and enjoy cannot be possible without water as an ingredient. Plants and animals cannot survive without water. The importance of water is underrated especially in societies that have no scarcity of the vital element for survival. However, as the world's population increases, the availability of resources (including water) is getting scarce. Furthermore, climate change and in particular global warming has seen the reduction in water which is expected to continue in the years to come (Santos Pereira et al. 8-11). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the vitality of water to living things, how it is getting scarce and the steps that can be taken to alleviate the lack of water problem.

It is clear that we are living in a period where the technology, as well as modern medicine, is affording us the chance of living longer in this world. Because of that, the population of the world is on the rise increasing day by day (Mooney 12). As we speak, the population is heading to 8 billion people an estimated 1% annual increase or an addition of 83 million people every year (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs). With this increase, the available resources needed for survival are getting less and less because the demand has grown more and more (Santos Pereira et al. 12). Water is one of the resources that is getting stretched due to population increase. Indeed, in nations such as India, the effects of high population on the distribution of water as a resource has been felt deeply and might escalate in the coming future. Wild animals are also facing a difficult period as they are forced to move for longer distances because of the encroachment of people into their territories that affects water catchment areas for these animals (Mooney 13).

Global warming is another phenomenon that is increasingly putting the world at risk. Global warming is the increase in the temperature of the earth due to human activities. Global warming happens when greenhouse emissions, carbon dioxide (CO2) as well as other pollutants collect in the atmosphere, creating a caveat that absorbs sunlight and solar radiation that bounces off the earth's surface (Oshitani 131). The absorbed sunlight should not hover around the atmosphere of the earth but should be absorbed in the earth's atmosphere. It causes the earth to get hotter and causes catastrophic events. For this topic, global warming is expected to cause about 20% loss of the whole earth's water in this century. Scientists and meteorologists predict that global warming will have an effect on the precipitation patterns which are already being experienced. Furthermore, the mountain glaciers, as well as ice, are melting at a very higher rate, and the world and many areas of the world are either experiencing extreme droughts or increased floods (Santos Pereira et al. 22).

Indeed, it is clear that living things are taking a beating from the world's reduction of water resources. From the above descriptions, it is clear that human beings are the biggest causes of the scarcity of water in the world. The population increase is being felt all around the world, and there are no contingency plans for ensuring that the world's population can adequately use the water resource available. It is important for nations to sit down and formulate plans that are able to control populations so that the world's water can adequately cater for not just the people, but plants and animals too. It is important that new ways of getting water and renewing them are discussed and new technologies that are able to ensure the recycling of water enhanced and implemented all across the world especially in poor nations. Furthermore, more ways and systems of trapping rainwater should be identified as more of this washes away into the oceans as runoff yet the same can be utilized or stored for the future (Flynn 14-25).

Individually, people should be more sensitive about water and use it sparingly. Such areas as toilets that use a lot of water should be reconstructed to use minimal water and also, people should be educated about ways of saving water. This will go a long way in safeguarding the water that we have for now. It is also important to institute tree planting campaigns as trees are able to pull rain thus increasing the amount of water for a particular region (Mooney 13).

Global warming is a more complex topic and one that requires the participation of nearly everyone in the world. The rise in temperature rises all over the world affecting the continent as a whole. As such, measures should be taken with consideration to the world. A few countries, the most developed and the richest in the world, account for more than half of the world's greenhouse emissions into the sky. This is because these nations have huge industries that emit more, account for more than half of the world's greenhouse emissions into the sky (Oshitani 98-118). This is because these nations have huge industries that emit a lot of waste into the atmosphere. As a nation, it is important to ensure that we reduce the amount of greenhouse emissions and any factory that does should face the full force of the law. Furthermore, there should be discussions with other nations as well as scientists on better ways of releasing these emissions into the atmosphere (Mooney 13).

Individually, we can plant more trees that are able to absorb the carbon dioxide escaping into the air. Vehicles have, and it is important to use cleaner vehicles that use other alternative forms of fuel. It is also important to make people aware of the effects of global warming on the earth and ensure that people understand the importance of people changing their lifestyles and be agents of change. Reducing the effects of global warming will help save the water (Oshitani 104-125).

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is imperative of the entire world to stand up and play its part towards ensuring that the world's waters are kept safe for now and for the future. Indeed, the two phenomena indicated above have had an effect on water levels and its scarcity as is experienced in the world. It is important that society changes how it does things to ensure that water can be enough not only for human beings but also for the animals and plants. The above examples are sure ways of helping solve some of the problems of water although there is more that can be done to alleviate the problems. More water will mean more life which is important for the existence of the world.
