Introduction

Violence is one of the primal problems in current and past American history. Some say that it is the reverse of its coin of freedom and prosperity. Over the years, there have been numerous cases of rampant crimes that are a pointer to the amount of violence that goes on daily in America. Statistically, the proponents of violence in the United States are men in their teens and twenties. The meaning of this is that society has failed to bring up their young men in a manner that would deter them from engaging in criminal activities. In my opinion, crime is one of the most significant problems in America because of the many young men who prefer violence to hard work (Gabort, 2016). These young men who are the perpetrators of violence like to grab what they have not worked for and thus, use crime as a quick fix. Additionally, the systems in place to deter young men from pursuing crime are not working, hence the reason for the high crime rates in the United States.

The high rate of violence in the USA has detrimental effects on various aspects of the economy, social life and the general security in the country. Crime affects the economy in many profound ways. For one, operators of business often close their premises early for fear of violence during late hours (Gabor, 2016). Secondly, businesspeople are afraid to set up their businesses in places where crime is rampant. Thirdly, entrepreneurs who are victims of criminal activities end up losing their much-needed income to facilitate further business ventures. All these factors hurt the economy of the country in the long run. With regards to the social life and norms of society, violence creates some huge problems. It leads to mistrust among members of a community because most people become suspicious of perpetrators of violence. Secondly, those thought to be involved in criminal activities isolate themselves from mainstream society, and this leads to a feeling of insecurity in the community where these subjects reside. Security wise, crime creates a loop where security forces have to be vigilant to reduce crime whereas the perpetrators of crime also have to be alert to avoid arrests. As such, most crime rampant communities often engage in gun shootings because of the warring groups who both want to have their way (Short, 2018).

The causes of crime are many, but in my opinion, it is the lack of morals among contemporary young men in most parts of the USA. The USA has one of the highest crime rates the world over, and this is a pointer to the dire situation of affairs in the country (Lim, 2016). The leading cause of these high rates is the erosion of morals in contemporary society. The current generation has no regard for the right things that they should do to live a life free from violence and crime. It is therefore natural for most young men to choose violence over the commendable paths to success in life. Although crime rates in America are some of the highest ever recorded, I believe that it is not as bad as the media and other institutions portray it. Violence is on a decrease, and at the current rate, violence will soon be a thing of the past in the USA (Wright, Rossi, & Daly, 2017).
