Introduction
About 7% of the children in the sample were reported to be victims. The majority of these children were said to be passive individuals who lacked physical prowess, had low self-confidence, and were unpopular with other children (Stephenson & Smith, 14) The statement means that various factors contribute to the bullying of students in schools, and they are majorly composed of the characteristics of the victims as opposed to the perpetrator. The features are usually inferior to those of the perpetrator and most of his colleagues.
I had personally experienced bullying related to the above in my fifth grade when I had just joined a new school. It happened that I had not made friends with anyone during my initial stages, and due to my smaller body size, I felt inferior to most of my classmates at that time.
The above information does not change my perception of the world in the sense that portraying inferior characteristics in the face of potential bullies will always attract them to perpetuate their acts.
It is likely that, on at least some occasions, part of the motivation for bullying is to impress other children or to impress the bystanders (Stephenson & Smith, 19) The statement means that to a greater significance, the surrounding people or rather the friends to the perpetrators and the victims contribute to the bullying behaviors in schools. The above is brought out when they are in the vicinity of the action taking place to be impressed. It also implies the perpetrators are also in light of what the surrounding wants to see or hear.
I have witnessed instances of the above cases in my surrounding, where I came across a crowd of children watching their colleagues being slapped as they laughed at him. I had to take action by reporting them to the teacher.
The above information changes the way I perceive the world in the sense that I now understand that bullying can also be perpetrated by those that are supposed to take care of us.
A pupil with learning difficulties can easily be the smartest child in the class earning praise and reward for him or herself or privileges for the class (Halbert, 137 The statement means that human beings can overcome harsh environments to the exploitation of their potential at any age and at a given time. It is through practice and efforts that one can get to stand out by accomplishing what they previously could not afford to do so because of being mocked.
A good example to portray the above is me. I encountered difficulties when I joined a high school where I was always mocked. It was because of the hand problem where I was not able to write well like the other students. However, I worked on myself well for the first year that saw my grades improve to beat all my classmates and even emerge the winner in top competitions.
The above information changes how I perceive the world in the sense that I believe that anyone could achieve anything given the determination and a positive spirit channeled to it.
Fights often start in the playground as a result of a pupil spreading gossip into a vulnerable ear, usually the ear of a volatile child who does not stop to think of the consequences (Halbert, 145) The statement implies what pupils are always aware of the characteristics of their friends that are involved in the perpetuation of dangerous news. Their intentions are usually achieved with the help of other characters.
I remember to have faced the wrath of a certain leader of a bullying group. One of my classmates claimed that I had threatened to report the group to the administration of the school. I was isolated and slapped several in a bid to stop the threats.
The information does not change the way I perceive the world since a group of students will at least possess a sneaky rat that will spread both wrong and right information to reach the unwanted people.
Action Section
Regarding bullying among the young generation of people, it can be concluded that the act cannot stop unless stan measures are taken by the concerned parties such as parents and teachers to stop it. In a bid to prevent and stop bullying, I encourage the victims to report perpetrators to the authorities for the advancement of punishments. I would also teach the young people, in general, the effects that come with bullying, both psychological and physical, so that they can see the need to desist from the same. I will also talk to the parents and guardians to discourage their children from bullying others.
