Introduction

Since the end of World War II, the United States interests in the Middle East has been so clear (Michael 290). The United States has resolved to prevent any hostility from striking and dominating the Middle East, an area they believe is of much significance in terms of geo-economic and geopolitical issues. They have attempted to use soft power to enhance their interests in the Middle East region. This paper aims to discuss the reasons behind the United States interests in the Middle East since World War II and the soft power used to achieve these interests.

The Middle East has vast oil reserves which the United States never got a large portion. Many of the international terrorists emerge from the Middle East and the United States. He United States plays a vital role in the prevention and combat of terrorism, thus growing their interests to keep an eye on the region (Kroenig, McAdam & Weber 415). The British withdrawal from the Middle East has forced the United States to set up military capabilities to prevent other forces from dominating the region.

Soft power has emerged as a vital tool for superpowers to dominate areas of interest. The United States is not left behind on this when it comes to the Middle East. Some soft powers by the United States on the Middle East include the political system as a model. The Middle East admires the American rule of law, democracy, accountability of leaders and freedom of speech which doesn't exist in their countries (Kroenig, McAdam & Weber 429). This enhances the American soft powers - exchanges of persons whereby the United States offers highly prized exchange programs to Middle East students and professionals.

Militarized communication-after 9/11 Bush administration started the war on terrorism and decided that the department of defence was to lead the government in conducting that war (Michael 300). The significance of this declaration of war against terrorism led to military intervention in the Middle East which continues up to date. The expansion of terrorism across other Middle East countries has led to the corresponding development of the department of defence in those countries as well. The United States focuses on the Middle East has been taken positively by some people since they gain in terms of political organization and security issues.

Introduction

In conclusion, the united states have made numerous attempts to remain influential in matters relating to the Middle East. Both economic and political reasons justify those interests in the Middle East. There is also the use of soft powers to exert their influence in the region, which are prevalent and widely employed strategies.
