An empire is a global market regulator in the form of a political subject with the sovereignty of governing the world (Hardt& Antonio, 2001). It can also be described to be a territory made up of many states ruled by an emperor. Many have argued that the United States an empire, but according to my opinion, it does not fit to be an empire. Firstly, despite the United States having many territories, it is ruled by a president but not an emperor, and all the non-states colonies are free to leave. As an empire, it could also be fighting to expand each day, but we have seen the United States confined to its borders which are recognized and no further alterations are allowed.

The United States may be confused to have wars in other countries hence exercising its superpower like the recent activities in Afghanistan, but it is not always by their will but invitations by the affected nations to restore peace and harmony. The united states troops do not take charge and turn the countries to be their members like an empire should but instead leave the affected country's contingent to be in charge; by United States not concurring in those nations but helping in protection of the citizens of the affected citizens and by so doing protecting itself it, therefore, does not qualify to be an empire.

The USSR broke down forming the United States and other nations which include Germany, Japan, Philippines, Russia, England, and South Korea. If the United States was an empire, it could not have let the nations leave the USSR but could instead have held together(Pomper, 2005). The United States may be confused to be an empire due to its economic and globalization power, but it has not globally influenced the markets, it instead does so with the help of other nations which have not only their currencies stronger than the US but also have a stronger say in the markets.

The United States North America part was unoccupied with the Native American forcefully removed from the area is very small, other territories like the Mexican, willingly joined the United States with the annexed states containing many of the United States immigrants which meant they also could find themselves in the hands of the United States; thus there was no hard struggle in attaining the current set boundaries, and the battle thereafter failed to materialize.

Many may tend to argue that the United States fit to be an empire because of the fact that it has many nations or the argument that from history the United States conquered some rules to make them incorporated from it, or the fact that it has some superpowers and it controls the globe, but I totally disagree. The United States does not qualify to be an empire because the many states are ruled by a president elected democratically and not an emperor. The United States also did not conquer states, but it worked on their advantages that nations willingly joined while others had their immigrants by that time, if it is concurring they should have conquered even the free-states which is not the case. The United States unlike an empire it has a fixed boundary recognized throughout the world and its involvement in other states war is for peace and order or ensuring that its interests are safeguarded. The united states is also not an empire because empires are not challenged which it has severally and instead, it can be termed a union
