Trends in Modern Cinema - Summary
Films and cinematography have played a significant role throughout the entertainment industry for generations, with each generation get characterized by a particular form or set of films and movies relating to their period. The article attempts to explain and justify the various modern trends in the film industry, especially in horror movies.
Horror movies are for audiences that prefer gory and disturbing scenes. In terms of production, more horror movies have been produced compared to the past. For instance, the horror movies produced in 2016 were about twice the number produced in 2006 (Platts & Clasen, 2017). The horror films produced in 2006 were almost four times as compared to the ones produced in 1996 (Follows, 2017).
When compared to other genres, horror films hold the highest levels of production. The reason for the continued increase in the number of horror films produced can get attributed to factors such as the cost-efficiency of filmmaking from technological changes, the reduction in stigma associated with horror movies, and the profitability that got associated with producing horror movies (Platts & Clasen, 2017).
Despite the increase in the production of horror movies, it is essential to note that horror movies have become less disturbing. The scenario is a known trend of horror movies where there are periods of light horror movies, and at other times there are intensive horror movies (Follows, 2017). Modern cinemas get tasked with the obligation to bring forth creative designs that tackle originality while keeping their audiences glued to their screens. The need for new and diverse emerging trends has, therefore, been of significant importance in regards to film creation and audience satisfaction.
