Introduction
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a major menace in the world. Those who suffer from this order are inattentive, impulsive, and hyperactive. Normally, the medication for ADHD is Adderall or Ritalin. Instead of using prescribed doses of Adderall, many people abuse these drugs for enhancement of their performance or for recreational purposes. This paper critiques a documentary dubbed "Take Your Pills" and gives an assessment of personal feeling and the surprising thing about the content of the film.
The Feeling about the Documentary
I felt upset about the film. Instead of being an insightful documentary that addresses ADH medication abuse in the workplace and college, it attacks the people who use the medication as well as the medication itself. The film repeatedly equates the stimulant medication which street drugs. It makes no distinction between the effects of taking the medication as prescribed and as an overdose. The documentary fails to show the side of stimulant (Adderall) prescription. Its main focus is interest in the abuse and adult use. The documentary makes no distinction between taking Adderall medication as prescribed and abuse on the medication. The experts interviewed such as Dr. Anjan and Dr. Wendy about the history and the potential danger of stimulant treatment without acknowledging even a single scholarly work or research h on Adderall. Instead of providing evidence controlled the positive and side effects of Adderall, the documentary focuses on a number of characters from diverse backgrounds such as an artist, a former NFL lineman, giving their testimonials about their good experience with Adderall. The film shows a diagram that explains the only chemical difference that exists between methamphetamine and amphetamine. Dr. Carl Hart falsely explains that people prefer Adderall because it is not associated with the stigma of illegal methamphetamine ("Take Your Pills | Netflix Official Site").
Surprise Thing about the Documentary
The documentary reveals that some people actually sacrifice their personality in exchange for the accomplishment of personal and workplace goals ("Take Your Pills | Netflix Official Site"). The film focuses more on people who use this drug to enhance their performance. The film further provides insight on how the American society is willing to adopt the prescription of antidepressant drugs without a thorough introspection. The idea that teachers actually give students Adderall without a proper prescription is appalling. Another surprising thing about this documentary is that reveals how college students easily buy this drug. In fact, many students regularly buy these drugs from the pharmacy of chemists and then sell them on Facebook. The only disappointing outcome of using this drug is when Britton, was suspended for having failed drug test because he had run out of Adderall. Thus, the documentary advocates for the use of Adderall to enhance performance rather than to treat ADHD condition.
How Being a Nursing Student Influenced my Answers
Normally, an overdose of a drug or using it illegally without a medical professional's prescription results into adverse effects that affect the victim physically and psychologically. The documentary, however, fails to highlight the negative effects of using this drug. Another case is that the students interviewed in the documentary believe that Adderall improves their cognitive ability. However, these drugs enhance performance through relieving boredom and tiredness. It is unethical to use drugs to enhance workplace performance. I, therefore, find this documentary to be against the ethical practices and principles in nursing.
Conclusion
"Take Your Pills" highlights examples in which Adderall has enabled people to enhance their workplace or school performance. Rather than giving insight into the use of this drug and possible side effects of this drug, the documentary encourages abuse of Adderall among college students and other people in various professions. However, it is worthy to understand that the video recognizes that Adderall abuse among people is a serious problem that needs to be averted. The public needs to be made aware of the underlying adverse effects of abusing this drug.
