Narcotic Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous self-help groups are of benefit to persons suffering from anger and addiction in such a way that: the person's self-efficacy is improved; that is; the person gets to understand the effects of violence and addiction. Secondly, the social contact of the person is maintained. Persons in anger and addiction tend to isolate themselves from others; isolation leads to negative thinking's, such as suicidal cases. The self-help groups create meanings to the victims that many people are undergoing through what they are facing, and isolation isn't the solution (Kelly et al. 2019).

According to (Yeoh et al. 2018), the social worker of the self-help groups intervenes and creates more significant benefits for the group members in the local environment opportunities through commitment and advocating of those persons who feel isolated in the community in bettering their lives and having their voices heard.

A facilitator of the self-help groups can have the predisposition to suppress the group and therefore leading to its weakening and failure in achieving the intended purpose. Implementation of the self-help groups is of great benefit in a community, as it helps in dealing with emerging cases of drug abuse, depression, and other situations that may threaten the victim's life.
