There have numerous ways in which missionaries have tried to reach the unreached Wolof in Senegal but to no avail. Most of the Wolof are still of the Muslim faith (Brodgen, 2011). The paper, therefore, seeks to discover ways on how evangelists can spread the message about Jesus and show the Wolof that He is indeed good for them.
First off, to spread the message about Jesus to the Wolof, it is important to conduct a demographic study on the population to find out how best evangelists will be able to resonate with the different demographics best (Brodgen, 2011). It is easier to inculcate the Christian faith to a fresh mind than it is to an adult as they have had a life long journey figuring out what they should believe in. Through Christian missions, the missionaries should ensure that they can attract individuals of different backgrounds to spread the gospel to them. Despite there being numerous mosques in Senegal, there should be a few churches set up within the communities so that those who have accepted Jesus Christ will be able to have a place to worship. Picking a single individual from the Wolof who has accepted the Christian faith will go a long way in helping the evangelist and missionaries to ensure that the word on Jesus is spread. By providing their testimonies, other non-Christian individuals will be able to understand their journey and how Christ has played a role in their life, and thus, new converted Christians shall come to be (Brodgen, 2011).
Through charity work and missions, the Wolof will get to see that the Christian faith’s mantra is love and therefore, a sense of belonging will be filth through this event. Taking care of the aged and feeding the community are such charity that would help an individual see that not only do the Christians preach the word, but they also practice it (Brodgen, 2011). Translating the Bible to the local Wolof dialect and making it available to them openly will ensure that a great number of them can access the word on Jesus and it will also help spread faster the Christian faith. Only if they get to understand Jesus and why He was sent on earth to die for their sins will they be willing to convert and the number of reached individuals in Senegal will have increased extensively (Garrison, 2007). Another technique missionaries should use is to invite local leaders to church and discuss how best they could help them by providing public platforms for use. It will go a long way in ensuring that individuals who do not have access to other media will also be able to get the word of Christ in an open setting. By inviting leaders of local ethnic churches and mosques, evangelists will be able to understand the culture of the Wolof as well as their needs and struggles (Garrison, 2007). They might be lost in terms of faith but understanding their culture will be one of the most important ways to ensure ease and flow of the word as there will be no friction and the missionaries will not go against the Wolof’s societal norms.
Door-to-door drives is also an important way of ensuring that the Wolof will get understand the message on Christ is true and that they should take their time to try and understand it. Through volunteering to help these individuals in whatever activity they partake in, it will create a platform for missionaries to be able to communicate to them and introduce the faith to them (Garrison, 2007). The door-to-door drives might be an efficient way of spreading the gospel but it has disadvantages as it can be tiresome and time-consuming. The most important way of ensuring any kind of message is spread is through understanding the local language and ensuring that missionaries preach using the local language or by the use of a translator making it easier for the message to resonate with them. Through vernacular stations, gospel recorded in the local dialect will help in reaching far and wide (Garrison, 2007). Music stations, a great of doing so because the young individuals tend to listen to a lot of music on their vernacular stations, and therefore by making that kind of music content available, it will be an educative and efficient way of spreading the word on Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
Since evangelism was Jesus mission here on earth, missionaries in Senegal should strive to do so as well as help others in doing so. Through evangelism, individuals can show their gratitude for what Jesus has done to them since they are openly lost without the love of Jesus Christ. God wants every individual saved and following the footsteps of His only son Jesus Christ. Every saved individual will be wholesomely rewarded for eternity because God’s plan for the human species is pegged upon evangelists completing their mission.
