Electric Vehicles are environmental and economically friendly, and thus, the United States should phase out all gasoline cars to ensure that it achieves its goals of cutting its negative contribution to global warming and climate change.
With growing concerns over global warming, leading contributors such as the United States have been a target of criticism from other nations that see it as not committed to protecting the environment (Stern 409). Gasoline cars, which make up to 99.5% of the vehicles on the US roads, contribute a large amount of harmful emissions to the environment (Nykvist and Nilsson 330). Consequently, adopting electric vehicles will form a major step towards reducing greenhouse gases. With each gasoline spending an average of 12 to 20 years on roads, it means that the United States will have to take more proactive measures to replace them, and this involves banning their production (Kuhne 4511).
However, opponents argue that electric cars do not offer the solution to addressing climate change. Their argument is based on the notion that increased electric vehicles will lead to increased demand for electricity, which means that the nation will have to produce more power to meet the growing demand (Fairley 56). Such increased will create additional greenhouse gas production, which will undo the gains of electric cars.
Such a notion is misplaced since the increased electric cars will not translate to any significant demand for electricity (Ziefle et al. 28). Furthermore, unlike gasoline cars, which emit gases all the time, electric cars, do not produce any harmful outputs during their operationalization. Consequently, EVs remains a viable solution to addressing environmental damage caused by vehicles in the United States.
