Introduction
I own a dog, which is my most favorite pet because it boosts my wellbeing and both in sickness and in health. It is hard to sell the dog because of the shared bond of friendship and mutual support between human beings and the pet.
Importance of Pets (Dog)
Additionally, the pet keeps the dwelling place safe by guarding the houses and all the property within the compound. The pet is a faithful companion that is loyal to the owner regardless of the situation since the dog makes the owner happier even during stress. The pet makes my life quite awesome by providing companionship, guaranteeing emotional support, reducing stress and a sense of loneliness, and increasing societal activities. Therefore, the dog increases social support and improves the self-esteem of children, as well as their positive emotional development (Wood, et al., p.3). Additionally, a dog is important because, despite being a pet, it offers excellent security due to their sense of smell (The Humane Society of the United States, 2020, p.n.p). By providing security at home, a dog can save a life.
Role of the Pet (Dog) In Life
Dog ownership boosts physical health, especially a person’s heart and cardiovascular health. For instance, owning such a pet reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, improves the progression of an underlying condition, and enhances the survival of cardiac patients. The pets are linked to reduced systolic blood pressure and cholesterol and improve the physiologic responses to stress. Therefore, a hypertension patient owning a dog can develop a lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when playing with the pet and undertaking day-to-day activities. Additionally, pet ownership, particularly dog ownership, improves physical activity and mobility to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and other diseases (Kruger & McCune, 2018, P.14). Notably, the dog always motivates the owner to engage more in walking and increase physical activity compared to non-owners. Therefore, the pet enables patients with cardiovascular-related diseases to achieve the recommended levels of physical activity.
