Introduction
Glacier Bivachny is located in central Pamir. The glacier confluences with Fedchenko Glacier. It is a flowing type of glacier. More often than not, the glacier undergoes a glacial surge. Unlike many other glaciers, Glacier Bivachny exhibits the sighs of surging. One of the main characteristics exhibited to show evidence that it is surging is that its surface could be perceived as having looped medial moraines. While other flow steadily, the Glacier Bivachny flows vibrantly and forward in bursts.
Quiescent Characteristic
The Glacier Bivachny glacier undergoes a long period of quiescent characteristic before busting out and flowing vibrantly. It is during the period that the ice remains inactive for a while, gathering energy to be utilized in ice transport and distribution. The process has been exacerbated by the availability of technology, such as remote sensing, to capture high-resolution information about the glacier. Its transport and distribution are often determined by considering the elevation of the glacier and the resulting change in volume. Some practitioners could use the data to effectively determine climate change.
The Glacier Bivachny glacier is one of the many surge-type glaciers in the Pamir Mountains. It is second after Medvezhiy Glacier, a surging glacier with similar characteristics. Its significant action is influenced much by the left tributary, the MGU glacier. Glaciers at the mountain are well known for the thickening of the upper regions and thinning of the lower regions during surging. During the inactive periods, the surge-type glaciers thicken in the lower tongues and thicken in the upper regions. The characteristics are visible in varying spans of years, and more often after periods of a decade or longer.
Pamir Mountain
Pamir Mountain is characterized by a continental climate that has various variations, including hot summers and cold winters. As a result, it is easy to perceive the action of multiple surge-type glaciers that is exacerbated by changes in temperatures. Even so, it still has unstable behaviors in the sense that it is difficult to predict its chances of bursting and flowing. This is so since the surge action is influenced by various changes in the area’s topography and dynamics. Additionally, the behavioral action of the glacier is characterized by surging and non-surging behavior.
The surgical action of Glacier Bivachny can cause disasters or significant geographical features such as lakes. Multiple other features can be exhibited after periods of abrupt flow and pushing of ice.
Conclusion
The vibrant movement of the glacier can cause the flow of up to four meters every day, which is too fast to cause blockage of rivers, destroy forests, and crash roads, and other built infrastructure. The forces are uncontrollable as they are naturally driven. Therefore, remote sensing today is in constant monitoring to ensure that surges do not happen without prior notification of the people living around the mountain. Among the primary advantages to geographers include the presence of multiple opportunities for describing and analyzing the evolution of the surge for Glacier Bivachny.
