Fate is defined as the development of events outside the control of a person, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power (Wei 5). Fate does not control my life. I have never at any one time done something or ignored doing something simply because I knew that events were predetermined by a supernatural power. In everything I do, I know that my abilities are only limited by the hard work, skills, and experience that I apply to a task. As a result, throughout my life, I have invested in good knowledge, gathered every experience available to me so that with the addition to my hard work, I can achieve everything I set my focus on. Looking back, I realize that I have been able to surpass some odds in my life simply because I believed that there is no limit to my capabilities and hard work.

I am a religious person but I refuse to apply the concept of faith negatively. Rather than view faith as a concept that sets limits on my capabilities, I use faith to expand the horizon of my capabilities then use my mind and my physical capabilities to achieve those desired ends. From the above-stated definition of fate, there is the underlying assumption that once an event has been predetermined, it is set on stone and nothing can change from that moment onwards. I have always held that such a point of view is a pretense to be lazy and in the extreme, a pretense to give up easily. Arguing that fate controls my life would be accepting that there is a ceiling to my capabilities, goals and dreams, a notion that goes against every bone in my body.

Moreover, I find the notion that I should wait for fortune to fall on my lap laughable. As already stated, I respect and trust in the principle of hard work. From the testimonies of the successful people, there is the constant mention of hard work because there is simply no shortcut to success. I find that even gamblers have to work hard in trusting their instincts and reviewing history before betting on something because they know that fortune must be earned. Hence, rather than anticipate that I should stay idle and wait for a fortune, I put faith in myself, the system and hard work and make concrete and precise steps towards attaining a certain goal because I do not let fate dictate my hopes and dreams.

Conclusion

In addition, I know that fate does not have a role in my life because I control my destiny. At the core of the concept of fate is that events happen and a person cannot have control over them. Rather than take this limited and retrogressive perspective in life, I agree with the concept of science that for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. Hence, if I respect the law, the law will protect me or if I work hard, I will witness great success in my pursuits. I do not believe in fate and therefore, I never let things get completely out of my control. From early on in my childhood, I learned to never let control slip out of my fingers because it is almost impossible to maintain accountability if I could blame my woes and shortcomings on fate.
