Introduction
Alcohol consumption is a broad norm in the society since time memorial. Alcohol is legal, therefore readily available in restaurants, liquor stores, and various supermarkets. In the era of our great grandfathers, alcohol consumption was during special occasions like a family get together, weddings or for leisure. This conception has since been misused causing addiction among some user. The social degradation due to alcohol abuse has developed a negative impact on families and society in general. The negative effects of alcohol has resulted in a heated debate to prohibit its sale and consumption.
Alcohol contains a compound called ethanol, heavy consumption of this compound can cause addiction and increase the risk acquiring heart diseases. However, alcohol may reduce stress, but in the morning it is a different story, minimize the risk of getting coronary heart diseases, and lighten up somebody with happiness. Nevertheless, alcohol is a depressant most likely to cause addiction since it controls the central nervous system slowing down the body functions. Consumption of alcohol is related to psychological issues such as hallucinations, anxiety, and alteration of brain functions.
A debate of whether alcohol users commit more crimes compared to other drugs is an essential determinant of the society's well-being. Statistics state that more than 60 percent of crimes in the US, which is sexual abuse, murder; child abuse and domestic violence caused by excessive alcohol consumption. It creates no doubt that alcohol has become a menace and cause for the public disorder. Alcohol prohibition will not only reduce the levels of crime associated with it but also restore public order.
The public argument that alcohol should be legal to the older population due to economic benefits is lame since it creates an opportunity for teenagers to sneak out the booze and consume it. Accidents are inevitable due to the influence, and at this tender age, teenagers are prone to health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, chronic illness, and diabetes that is common among moderate drinkers.
The common side effects afflicted by alcohol consumption include broken families, lost career opportunities, and disoriented society. Research studies indicate that at long run the severe damage to the body and mental stability is overwhelming. Alcohol consumption is legal and includes minimal prohibition towards young adults that do necessary control its addiction. Some of the common arguments people at the age of 18 are eligible to vote and sign contracts, and smoke, why prohibit them from drinking? It is a vague question, and the fact remains that at this age they are vulnerable to commit many atrocities under the influence since they do not have a sense of responsibility. At the age of 18-21 year statistics, reveal that they are not mature enough to handle such chemicals. On the same argument, 21-year-old adults still cannot indulge in alcohol consumption. Teenagers have a mild scope of responsibility and only think of themselves hence the need to prohibit the sale of alcohol.
Conclusion
The keen perception of the society to prohibit alcohol consumption among adults of 21 years and less is essential to protect innocent people of age who drink responsibly. Nevertheless, it is not viable to prevent alcohol consumption to adults throughout 21due to its economic benefits. The government should impose laws that limit alcohol consumption such as the management reserves the right to sell alcohol to under-aged adults and the user cannot exceed a certain limit of use. Prohibition of alcohol is rational hence the moral responsibility counts.
