Introduction
The rise of the new Negro was accompanied by several intellectual, political, social, and cultural developments. During the time, many scholars, social scientists, writers, poets, artists, and activities came together to fight for the right of the New Negro. This was during the 16960s as they were fighting for equal rights of the blacks, following the disbanding of slavery. The suffering of the black people in the United States was severe during the great depression. This explains why, soon after, they would fight for their freedom and equality. This paper aims to discuss the rise of the new Negro.
Most of the writers also contributed to the rise of black people. Such includes Margaret Walker and Frank Marshall. They worked with the communist colleagues to ensure that their writings sparked change. One of the writers, for example, Arthur Rothstein, was asked to give the book to pictures that were taken in Farm Security Administration. This work attracted 12 million black supporters towards their freedom. These writings shaped the lives of the black people and their ideas about labor, standards of living, and they're worth it.
The goals of social scientists, scholars, artists, writers, and activists were mainly to free black people from the oppression of white people. They fought for equal rights in employment, living standards, and wages. Work station had become places of abuse, of pain and of suffering to the black people. The ones who suffered were in the southern parts of the country. Therefore, all these categories of people sought equality of black people. They were fighting against the practices and the laws instituted by Jim Crow on racial segregation.
There were social and cultural developments that also contributed to this rise of the Negro. For instance, the Harlem Renaissance would be acted in theaters, music, and art. Broadway included black people with severe roles in the acts. Some shows featured the black cultural heritage and also captured the experiences of the black nation at the time. The new Jazz also won the situation of the black people, which furthered their rise. Activists like Marcus Garvey would form a group dressed in military regalia and match in streets to seek justice, though this seemed too radical.
The Communists party is among the political parties that supported the change in the life of the blacks. The main aim of this party was to fight for the rights of workers through the formation of labor unions and also to fight against racism and colonization. Most of its Agendas were welcome by the black nation who joined in to support the party. They majored mainly in the southern part of America, where the humiliation of the blacks was too much. One of the ways that the party showed support for the black people included them in employment. Curly Murphy, who was a civil rights reader and a journalist, commented that the Communist party was the only one that supported the blacks. This shows that all other political parties in the United States were racists.
The Republican Party supported the civil rights of the blacks during the time of Abraham Lincoln before the great depression. During this time, mostly to the black endorsed the party. After the First World War, most blacks moved to the Democratic Party. This is because discrimination ensued in the Republican Party so that selfish political gains were in the best interest of the political leaders. Roosevelt, who was the leader of the democratic, fought for the civil rights of the black people. This was mostly in the southern states, including Texas.
The FSA photographs show that the life of African Americans was full of suffering during the great depression. One of the pictures, for example, shows a man drinking water with a tumbler from what seems to be a toilet place. The water was probably for washing hands since it was in the white people's washrooms. From the expression on the man's face, he must have been very thirsty, and there was no water. They were, therefore, suffering and being oppressed during the great depression.
The racial politics of the communist party were against the discrimination of any minority group, including the blacks and other non-American nationals. Therefore, they fought for the equality of all the minority groups. The racial politics of the ordinary black people were explicitly for their race. The communist party was also fighting the segregation that was taking root in the other parts of the country. The only similarity is that both political parties competed for the rights of the blacks and seek equality as the white people.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the rise of the new Negro movement, which accounts for the present-day position of the African Americans in the US, is a result of many factors. These efforts would not have been a success without the help of political parties, social movements, activists, and civil rights movements, among other bodies. It calls for the action of every person to know their rights and fight for them.
