Introduction
The good life entails happiness, connectedness with reality and one’s environment, and happiness. It draws from the sense of appreciation, recognition, and support that the environment provides, and the opportunity for one to define their stories. Every individual can define their good life by first examining their environment, determining the positives it offers, and challenging issues that prevent their realization of such status. In challenging injustices, individuals take responsibility for their destiny, and derive joy in experiencing the fruit of such labor.
The Three Most Significant Factors in “The Good Life”
Relationship and Community
Relationships and a sense of community are borne from home and grow outward. It is these relationships that support an individual’s environment of comfort, happiness and abundance. This theme runs throughout Malala’s Nobel Peace Prize speech, where she acknowledges how interpersonal conflicts with her brothers defined her character and the urge to fight for better relationships (MalalaFund, 2014). A good relationship with the community helps in creating a connection with people who more often share common interests and passion and in the long run strengthening relationships. The sense of belonging in a community is well felt when one feels that they can fit in and get to have a reflection and meaning of a good life. Overall, the community should be functional in the sense that it permits everyone to thrive and develop positive connections.
How an individual relates to others determines how well one can enjoy a good life. One should consider linking with the community in a manner that creates hope and purpose as it is essential in helping people get to experience different aspects based on a prosperous relationship as well as ensuring that one gets to belong to the specific heart that one gets to agree within to enjoy a good life (O'Neill et al., 2018). A good relationship nurtures a feeling of belonging that grows from the sense of being valued for who one is and appreciated in different ways. Human beings are created in a manner that hat they are related and have the feeling that makes them be an epitome of having a good life.
Hospitality
Hospitality is an essential factor in the realization of functional, accommodative societies. Individuals are part of families, communities, countries, continents and the world. At each of these levels, there is heterogeneity in the nature of gender, language, color, and many other differentiators. Hospitality is the element of being accommodative, understanding each other’s strengths and limitations, and promoting strengths to realize a safe environment for all. For instance, people living with disability should not be isolated and in a situation where they are able to live and study in the same way with the rest of the community. They feel that they are living a good life when they can enjoy the same joys and happiness. As such, Adichie’s warning on the danger of a single story becomes very relevant (Adichie, 2009). In a situation where one has no idea of the complete story, one tends to be one sided and believe one side, which prevents their readiness to create a safe space for another. To live a good life with the community, one should get to hear both sides since one single story is more often biased.
The aspect of being hospitable creates a sense of peace through having a warm and genuine spirit that helps in creating a nonviolent pathway and transcending background. When one is well hospitable, one can extend to another environment and get to enjoy the goodness that comes from other social customs and spiritual values. It is this fight for shared joys in the face of diversity that forms Malala’s story and fight (Malala Foundation, 2014). Where hospitality exists in a community, members respect each other’s rights as spelt out under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Brown, 2016). With time, one can broaden the different perceptions and open arms that help in embracing oneself, family, and humanity hence creating a good life.
Freedom
A good life is defined by a sense of freedom in which one feels that their rights and freedoms are respected, and they play their part in protecting the rights of others. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognizes that “all humans are bone free and equal in dignity and rights” (Brown, 2016). A good life is based on the freedom to defines one’s identity. The kind of space that one has gives the right for one to choose different traditions, conventions, and constricting behavior that shape the life of an individual. When this freedom is curtailed, there is bound to be resistance such as used by Malala to fight for the rights of children be able to undertake education (Yousafzai, 2014).
With freedom, one has the freedom to attain other desires and acquire knowledge of good. Having true freedom is essential to having a good life. Freedom can be viewed in two ways, the freedom of excellence and the freedom of indifference. One should have the right to choose what is good and evil. With the power of goodness, one can act freely with excellence and perfection. With freedom, justice will always prevail and minimal experiences of discrimination, and in the long run, one will get to enjoy life and have a good life. Freedom has been significant in the strive to live a better life. The female gender has been able to express them and have a say with regard to peace and change.
Things That Are Less Important, Not Essential, Or Even Detrimental to The Good Life
There is a different aspect that derails an individual from enjoying a good life. Various factors should be done away with for one to enjoy a beautiful journey and get to embrace full opportunities and kindness in life. One cannot enjoy a good life if one sticks to the past, one should learn to free themselves by freeing from what happens in the past such as past broken relationships and the loss of loved ones. The aspect of taking things personally has an impact on one living a good life. At times one thinks that life is unfair, but the element of not owning problems creates a culture of not being well understood, leading to awkward situations.
To live a good life, one should practice choosing less over more. Some situations are easy to overdo, and hence there is the need to get rid of things that bother you such as people and things as they tend to derail us (Wong & Paul, 2011). The aspect of wanting to have full control over everything is also a non-essential of a good life. Tending to want to have control over everything means that one will want to embrace what he or she cannot comfortably handle. Wanting to have full control means that one will have a high expectation which is an ill element in the strive for a good life and in the long run leading to disappointments in the long run.
Challenging Concepts of a Good Life
On inquiry about a good life, it has been characterized as being at peace as a result of freedom, relationship with the community, and above all, being successful defines a good life. However, the question of emotional intelligence makes a massive difference in how one gets to have a good life. Without the answer to how a successful person to deal with emotions on issues such as setbacks, struggles and pain, and life troubles questions a lot about having a good life. The question of how to effectively live a good life is questionable due to the indifference that exists on how to deal with emotions.
On review of decisions and actions that one takes with efforts of having a good life, one has to have the understanding of different behaviour and the experiences of one based on failure. The behavioural choices can be evaluated based on the choices made with the efforts of an improvement. One should get to understand the different decisions made that have resulted in mistakes making life awful. The aspect of failure creates the level of setbacks that influences how good the life of an individual. For one to be happy and feel good about life, one should embrace failure and create ways of controlling emotions and tools that help in shaping one to become a better person (Brandlee & Ben, 2011).
Prompt Impacting a Good life
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has a high impact on a good life. Human rights play a significant role in meeting the conditions of goods, capacities, and options that help in pursuing a good life. The fundamental rights facilitate creating a culture where all can embrace the truth and accommodating all individuals (Brown & Gordon, 2016). A good life of a citizen will be witnessed where human rights can protect citizens from oppression, discrimination, and any kind of intolerance. Human rights play a significant role in ensuring that one gets to enjoy education, protection, and proper living standards and sources of wealth, which play a role in ensuring that one's life is fulfilling.
The good life is positively shaped by the human rights aspect. With defined rights, it has become possible to share basic needs, protecting one from abuse and give one the freedom to stand from societal oppression. Individuals have been able to have a better life based that they feel protected and, in a case, where they feel oppressed, they have the of expression that will help in ensuring that one is happy and at peace. Based on relationships as a good life, the human right allows us to love whoever one chooses and encourage to have equal opportunities at work, and education which plays a role in shaping how good our life will be
Ways Found Insightful for the Big Question
The idea of having a good life, different statements defined what is right, for instance, when one was in their childhood, their useful life was based on childhood experiences such as where we live, the character's strength, and the value they have on oneself. Similarly, a good life can be based on Maslow's hierarchies of needs in which needs are based on self-actualization at the top and human needs at the bottom (Amani, & Shabahang, 2017). According to the hierarchy, we have to move through the pyramid to enjoy and have a good life.
In a situation where needs security, their useful life can be based on being in a secure environment as it6 is one of the core values. It can be argued that the importance of an individual is the key drivers of what is perceived to be a good life. The different values such as power, traditions, security create a collection of the various principles that are deemed to det6ermine having the right and desirable life. An insight into what defines a good life can be viewed in the manner of what is better is not always equal to what is right—ever stuck between two choices since one appears to be saner, monetarily reliable, or safe? While everybody needs fundamental requirements like wellbeing and monetary security that appears better to serve our mission.
Impact of Good Life Impacted Concepts God, Self, and Others
The impact of a good life is outspoken on the role of religion. God is believed to play a significant role in ensuring that lie is comfortable. The aspect of God in a good life can be based on the superpowers of God that entail giving proper human health, the breath, and the strength to work every day. Without the role of God, life cannot be bearable in that we cannot enjoy life without the role played by God. Imagine being wealthy but lack good health? One cannot base his life to be fulfilling and useful as you don't enjoy what you have. The question of the good life has left me in a dilemma of why would God want us to suffer, why we would get sick and not enjoy having a good life.
