Introduction

Data governance is a concept of data management strategy in which the organization seeks at enhancing the quality of data. It is the management of the usability, availability, security, and integrity of the organizational data towards enhancing the overall safety of the organizational performance. The process of data governance should cover every data within the organization including key information that comes and those that leave the organization(Monterio, 2016). Data governance is essential for the success of the organization given that it helps in protecting information within the organization for any attempt by the hacker to access the information of the business without permission from the management or the organizational owners. It also helps in relying policies and regulations on the kind of people who should have the authority and the powers to view or access information of the organization with an aim to ensure that every information remains safe and secured.

The Organizations that Have Made Important Steps to Implement Technology and Improve Data Governance

International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)

IBM is an American multinational company that deals in information technology across the world. The company remains among the most common and the first organizations in the world to carry out essential steps in implementing technology to enhance the use of data governance within its management. IBM manufactures and even markets various components of the computer hardware toward the realization of its organizational goals.

Microsoft Corporation

Microsoft is another company that implements the use and application of technology and data governance towards the enhancement of the security of its data throughout the organization. Microsoft is an American multinational company that provides a wider variety of technological services and equipment. It manufactures sells and supplies consumer's electronics, and other personal computers related services.

The Technology that they implemented

IBM and Microsoft companies have made essential steps towards implementing the BM InfoSphere as the technological tool that aims at enhancing their security of information and to keep their information safe and more secured. Through data management technology, those organizations can monitor individuals who access their information with their permission (Kamioka Luo & Tapanainen, 2016).Data governance tools have great importance for the success of the organization at a greater dimension.

One of the main reasons behind the choice of a data governance technology was to help in offering maximum protection of the organizational data both the incoming, outgoing and the stored data of the business. The process of implementing data governance tool was also to help minimize the possible risks that these two firms could face to hinder their performance and organizational productivity. An informational breach in a major threat to the firm's security and it is important that firms make the essential steps in enhancing the overall security of the data through proper data governance.

The Business Factor Evaluated Prior the Implementation

Before the implementation of the data governance technology, the fundamental business factors that these organizations had to consider were the security of the client's information and the security of the overall organizational data. Besides, these two major firms went ahead to evaluate the possible risks that the firm is likely to encounter the moment they lose their client's information or when an intruder gains unauthorized accessibility.

Information Deficiency before the Implementation

Prior the implementation of the data governance technology and tools within both the Microsoft and the IBM companies, both organizations had an issue to do with data insecurity with some of the clients and the organization management claiming the loss of their essential information without proper authorization (George, 2018). Besides, there were issues of cyber insecurity within the two organizations in which even most of the management team feared to on the best way that they could share their vital information without threats of losing their essential information. It, therefore, shows that security was the major deficiency that both organizations were undergoing and they were looking ways to reduce such claims that were likely to cause significant threats to the organizational success.

Benefits Gained After the Implementation of the Technology

One of the major benefits that IBM and Microsoft managed to gain after the implementation of the data governance as the technology of consideration was improved security for the organizational data. Besides, through improved security of the information within the organizations, these major firms were also able to realize improved productivity and performance growth (Kamioka Luo & Tapanainen, 2016). The efficiency in the flow of information from one department and organization to the next also improved with the increased or introduction of the data governance tools. Besides, the organizations were both able to reduce the initial risks that they were encountering that hindered them from the realization of their overall operational goals and success objectives.

Benefits and the Associated Technological Cost

It is true that the data management technology within the organization had great importance and several benefits that were able to outweigh the cost of purchase, installation, and operating the technology. For instance, through improved data governance, the two firms were both able to increase their level of productivity.
