Introduction

In his speech "How to believe in yourself," he uses an acorn to illustrate how to know the person you are designed. It is in three parts, which are the stem that represents the correlation to the pass. The second part is the cap, which represents your teachers, parents, mentors, and role models, and it holds the seed up to when the grain is ready to be on its own. When you are prepared to be on your own, the seed holds both your potential and that line's future generation potential (Cathcart). In discovering ourselves, we must respect our nature, know our character, apply our view, and finally nurture our life.

In Yubing's speech, "Life begins at the End of Your Comfort Zone." She begins by how the phrase "It's not as scary as it looks" aided her to regain courage. Also, she used a story by Chia to describe how overcoming fear of failure leads to happiness and possibilities in life. In her second story about John, who was her friend on how to embrace uncertainty to begin enjoying life? Zhang shares her love story with her parents on how she finally regains the courage to tell them she loves them. From the stories, she is trying to talk about life being a constant fight against finding your comfort zone, subsist from it, and accept fear (Zhang). Then, go and do what you always desire, and in that way, you shall enjoy life.

Bill Eckstrom Speech

In his speech titled "Why Comfort Will Ruin Your Life." He talks about what makes you feel comfortable can ruin while what makes you feel uncomfortable turns to be the only way to success and growth. He uses Growth Rings to illustrate, and it represents the living environment that hinders growth. It comprises of stagnation and chaos which stand for low performing and low growth. There exist order, which presents the understanding of the happenings of your environment that result in the predictable outcome and stop growing. Therefore, before orderliness limits your way of thinking, you should find your discomfort leading to complexity ring. He provides different ways to trigger complexity that are; it can be forced; it can be triggered by other people and also by you (Eckstrom). Therefore, growth occurs only at discomfort.

Connection With My Belief System

Jim, Zhang, and Bill's speech have a great relationship with my belief system. I will begin with Jim's statement, and I tend to trust that to believe in myself starts with discovering who I am and what I am capable of doing. Zhang speech goes one on one with my belief that fear of failure hinder success because it discourages me from attempting something new. Also, Bills' speech is in line with my belief system that while at my comfort zone, I never think hindering my performance at school. It is what Bill is referring to that growth only occurs at discomfort.

Limitation of the Concepts

There exist different situations where these concepts might not work. For instance, taking that somebody is fired from his job, the discomfort that arises might even hinder the person to the extent that instead of growth, he commits suicide. The concept of believing yourself by discovering yourself first might not work for some people (Cathcart). It is because despite not knowing what they are capable of doing, they are happy and contented by the person they are.
