Discussion

Continuous use of computers makes human additive to the Internet up to a point where it is difficult to stay without it. For instance, in the case of Nicolas Carr, her notes that every morning before he wakes up, he would search for his phone, flip the sheets and pillows until he finds the phone. Furthermore, he lay back in the bed and straight checks on Facebook, Reddit, and Snapchat. Surprisingly, he would tell himself he would be up by ten minutes, but this is not to be. However, when it comes to school work, which is chemistry, he would finish this work in barely five minutes then losses his concentration. He ends up doing his homework just a few minutes before the class.

Carr also notes that he wastes over five hours per day watching movies, Netflix, and even batman and dark knights. This hour could have been spending doing homework and other chores at home. Nicolas says that some people diagnose themselves in this state, and they blame their attention span and the willingness to learn on ADHD. But Carr blames the Internet and us too for the situation.

According to Nicolas Carr, people are losing their attention span too fast due to sites such as Google. He notes that something is tinkering with his mind, and he feels it. In this respect, he quoted a scene from a movie where the astronaut is taking the memory out Hal the computer. Furthermore, he compares to himself when he reads a book; after three minutes of reading, he gradually losses his concentrations and tries to look for something else to do.

Nicolas Carr, in his article, is Google making us stupid to address the issue of internet use and human brain functioning. This is significantly important because the overuse of the Internet could be changing to ways in which humans think. It is worthy to note that technology is taking slowly over human lives. Individuals can chat with loved ones whenever they want to, even those who are located far away. With just click of a button, one can purchase something far way around the world. However, this has come with challenges; it has led to trafficking and even cyberbullying.

He further notes that continuous use of the Internet has led to a change in the way our ability to engage in in-depth reading. Therefore it restricts our ability to think critically. He says this is due to the idea of neuroplasticity. This is where our brains change to adapt to the stimuli it encounters.

Thomson says the continuous use of the Internet may result in a poor relationship with friends and even family members. Additionally, computer application has led to a lack of interest in daily life and neglect of domestic, academic as well as professional and other responsibilities; thus, it gradually leads to a discount of quality life.

Internet usage has also leaded to cyber bullying. According to Thomson, he notes that with advancing technology, the Internet has contributed to bullying. Internet users have over the last few years complained of intimidation by unknown people. These also include sending messages which threaten once life. These acts led to fear among the users, and some even end up losing their property to the bullies. One can, therefore, ask how this can happen. This happens has the culprits threatened the users to send the chunks of monies failure of which they'll be killed, or their close relatives are killed.

The Internet has led to increased crimes. Many cases have been reported which are linked to computer use. Harking of systems and even banking institutions has been on the rise. An investigation which deals with communication has linked this increase with internet development.

In his book the shallows, Carr explains further in the manner In which our brains delved into the structure of the brain and the effects that constantly stimulate our ability to concentrate, reason, remember and empathize. He implies that the network is not making us better in any way. For instance, he says that computer use has led to increased laziness, and the dependency on the computer has increased. Similarly, he assumes human has continued to depend on a computer to offer solutions to human problems. Additionally, computer use has led to break up of families due to the usage of social media.

According to my understanding of the topic, it is quite evident that computer/ internet use has both positive and negative effects. Thus there are needed to make use of the positive results as well as minimizing the potential hazards of the Internet

Conclusion

In summary, internet use has a lot of throwbacks as well. Thus, there is a need to develop ways that are useful in utilizing this technology. Similarly, it has done work to be like a global village. Therefore people cannot shy away from this reality. They should adapt to the changing environment, embrace the computer application, and this will change the lives of many people. Lastly, computer usage has led to increased job opportunities across the globe. It is, therefore, necessary to find solutions to the few challenges associated with internet use.
