Introduction
Communication entails one of the crucial aspects of life to all human beings on the planet. Since creation period people consistently generate, organize and send information to each other to enhance effective communication and interaction with one another. Nonetheless, the introduction of the technology enables smooth communication among people and business organizations through social development and global participation. More so, technology enhance civilization change of humankind in history through substantial impacts in the lives of people.
Additionally, the first telegraphic messages to be sent was during the opening of Albany and Boston railroad from Baltimore to Washington with the news about James K and Henry Clay nomination for a presidential seat in 1844 (Carey, 1983). Thus, telegraph changed the nature of language and how people interacted. Furthermore, through technology systems, people can secure their communication by protecting their human rights. Therefore, this paper elaborates how technology developments through the invention of the telegraph, the eruption of social actors and activists to fight for human rights improved communication and global participation.
The invention of technology alters how people communicate and interacts. First, the development of telegraph messages facilitated a fast mode of communication from one person to another in different locations. Western Union, an industrial monopoly, dominated the telegraph to run its communication empire and manage complex enterprises. Thus, telegraph altered the nature of language and structures of awareness among human beings (Carey, 1983). Moreover, through telegraph, communication was effectively separated from transportation. Also, telegraph enhanced the control of the physical process. Consequently, the arrival of the telegraph in the West Coast altered the thoughts regarding communication. Thus, providing a transmission model concerning interaction and outlined older religious views regarding disclosure. The model disclosed formal practices and practical consciousness as new ways of communication thinking.
Telegraph influenced the creation of impersonal relations among people internationally. The development of railroads and telegraph, a new system of the organization evolved due to the high speed and volume of transactions between people. Initially, people had personal business relations, and they interacted according to how they knew each other. However, telegraph led to impersonal business relations, whereby the relationship between the sellers and buyers get mediated using a structure of management and an organization (Carey, 1983). Hence, through telegraph and railroad technologies, led to effective coordination of social relations between large groups of anonymous sellers and buyers.
The revolution of social life and political influences across the world get stimulated by the invention of the telegraph and railroad. Telegraph enhanced the intimate connections among countries and races. Thus, enabling civilization through the exchange of thoughts among nations globally after effective social interactions. The electric telegraphs between India and Europe enabled the British to strengthen their rule through effective communication from Asia to Europe. Hence, through the power of information from telegraph systems, the British consolidated its power.
Furthermore, technology improved communication by ensuring the information is precise and accurate. The invention of the telegraph as a technology tool led to the elimination of detailed letters with extended details of the announcement and descriptions. The use of many words was expensive on the telegraph, thus, separating the writer from the observer of the information. Additionally, telegraph developed a simulacrum of compound structures and a digital language model. Thus, through the systems, it controls and coordinates activity in the space. Telegraph transferred information regarding the commodities and their prices from one market to another.
Moreover, telegraph encouraged the decontextualization of markets from not depending on local factors in terms of demand and supply but on international forces (Carey, 1983). Hence, it led to the development of standards time zones to ensure markets are interdependence and more uniform. Therefore, telegraph systems due to the growth of communication internationally enhanced the diminishing of space as a differentiating principle of human activities.
Technology assist social actors in communicating, facilitating societal development globally. Thus, enabling social intervention through delivering appropriate information and communication to people. Moreover, technologies allow organizing and coordinating for action which alters with the life of people. Hence, the technology systems help in the formation of a global movement with expertise in communication to develop a collective information society. Actors from non-government collaborate with others from government institutions to create change that enables the exchange of information from one country to another (Milan & Padovani, 2014).
Through the use of technology, social actors interact across the national boundaries. The interaction influences a global civil society by gaining appropriate recognition among people. Furthermore, technology evolution in communication facilitated the increase of the number and the responsibility of the NGOs internationally. Hence, individuals from different regions in the world through the organizations created international mobilization patterns to solve common problems facing them either socially, politically and economically. More so, the NGOs used the technology to send information conveniently and fast to their members, leading to an increase in the quantity and quality of the attendance in the UN conferences. For instance, in 1972, the number of NGOs increased to 300 attending the Human Environment conference in Stockholm (Milan, & Padovani, 2014).
Introduction of technologies provided cheap and quick equipment for exchanging information for the differentiated mobilization dynamics. The activism organizations coordinated the transnational action through the use of technology tools to ensure their complaints are effectively heard globally. The activism actors organized events for parallel summits, whereby associations and groups from diverse backgrounds interacted and created cooperative relationships which enhanced transnational networking. The associations enable people from different cultures to share their challenges and struggle encountered in their regions. Thus, the groups present the information of challenges to the government and non-governmental organizations to request for assistance.
Technology led to the creation of communication systems that maintained the struggle to fight for human needs and rights internationally. Progressive professionals from media and democratic activists launched projects to empower people by providing access to media information to all and participation. Also, the initiative's programs developed by the activists rapidly ensured its voice is heard in the Congress meeting. For instance, in 1999, People's communication charter get created to provide interaction of people through fighting for their right internationally (Milan, & Padovani, 2014). Eventually, more transnational groups developed with the main objectives of free access to information and the protection of human rights.
Besides, technological developments encourage transnational interventions in the sector of communication and expansion of media. In 2000 NGO designed the first edition of GMMP to represent the data of gender and news in seventy nations. Also, GMMP contributed to a high-level global summit on women in the United Nations conference in Beijing. The GMMP facilitated the realization of transnational initiatives through the use of ICTs as the primary tools for social mobilization. More so, ICT tools reduced the cost of information, coordination and encouraged knowledge-sharing inducing direct interventions.
The rapid development of technologies led to multilateral negotiations among international society due to the requirement of new regulations. Thus, social actors and activism across the globe gathered to develop a common objective of information technology. The conference offered civil society a chance for political participation. Therefore, through technology evolution, civil society groups participated globally to represent legitimacy and protect human rights through mobilization (Milan, & Padovani, 2014). Also, due to multiple civilian actors internationally led to the creation of platforms to support communication rights. Whereby some NGOs get appointed as advisors in government and UN organizations.
The evolution of open-source software in computing started in the United States and eventually spread globally. The growth was due to controversial pertaining knowledge and communication such as intellectual property and unequal distribution of technologies. The movement of open-source allowed the equality of communication and principles of access to information discussed in NWICO. The networks and computers enabled freedom in designing tools and equipment. Thus, facilitating the era of typical interaction of communication and information among people from different parts of the world. Computer scientists ensuring social responsibility organization was developed in 1981 to educate the public and policy-maker on issues of incorporating network systems to provide and access information equally (Mathiason, 2013). Therefore, through the education programs, diverse people interaction using the technology medium to communicate and share information regarding equality in communication and access to information.
Electronic communication allows appropriate international participation by ensuring information is more accessible globally. Technology increases the international news creating global awareness of issues happening in different parts of the world. For instance, in the case of hurricanes occurrence technology helps to communicate the news around the globe through the use of electronic communication. More so, enabling the participation of other countries to provide help and solutions of the people affected by the calamity. Also, the people affected can use technology to provide information regarding hurricane incidents globally (Mathiason, 2013). Therefore, enabling fast global involvement in the creation of solutions on how to deal with the calamity affecting people.
Technology creates global awareness on current issues happening in the world. Through electronic communication, government and institutions share information with a massive number of people. Technology enables communication to be more productive and reliable by conveying the appropriate information at the right time. For instance, in the case of a disease epidemic, the World Health Organization and government bodies use technologies to communicate with people globally about the disease outbreak (Maail, 2014). Thus, creating global awareness of the epidemic. Also, the government and health organizations can warn people against the movement to places affected by the outbreak. Therefore, appropriate coordination between people and health facilities to control the epidemic.
Moreover, the development and growth of technologies influence almost the whole population of people worldwide to subscribe to mobile phones users. Thus, due to the increase in mobile broadband, people with disabilities and elderly persons get empowered with knowledge and information through the use of mobile connectivity. E...
