Introduction
The advancements in the field of technology have come along with a lot of benefits because it is being used in different places to carry out several activities. As much as the advantages of technology have been beneficial, there have been certain shortcomings associated with it. One such disadvantage that has been linked with the use of technology in the burnout. Burn out refers to an instance whereby you do have the energy to be productive. In this case, their level of work input will be down, and this may affect the performance of an organization. With that in mind, this paper will focus on various articles concerning burn out in the tech industry by explaining that burn out varies among IT professionals, depersonalization, and personal achievement associated with job burnout, job burnout, and employee engagement and how it contributes to employees' turnover.
In the first article, burn out syndrome among information system professionals, burn out is a unique form of stress syndrome within the tech industry, the rise of technology has prompted many organization to hire information system professionals (Huarng, 2001). These individuals are the ones responsible for making sure that the information system within an organization is used in the right way to achieve its goals and objectives. Most of the information systems that are run by the information system professionals are complex because most of them serve a bigger organization. As much as burn out is the presence among the information system professionals, it tends to vary among the work content or the job type(Huarng, 2001). Therefore, information system professionals handling a lot of work will have a higher burn out compared to those who have less work.
The second article that outlines burn out within the tech industry is the Job burnout of the information technology worker: Work exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. According to this article, the environment of information technology workers is likely to be associated with several cases of work exhaustion. Work exhaustion results from burn out as the technology worker loses the energy required to accomplish specific tasks or duties (Shih, Jiang, Klein and Wang, 2013). This study was conducted on various IT workers, which showed that some of the main conditions related to the work exhaustion within an IT environment include perceived workload, emotional dissonance, and fairness of the rewards and complexity of the roles as well as conflict. According to Shih, Jiang, Klein, and Wang (2013), as much as work exhaustion is part of the conditions associated with an IT work environment, and there are two dimensions of job burnout theory that has to be considered. These two dimensions are depersonalization and personal achievement. In every organization, the management should be aware of some symptoms of the job burnout because if they are not dealt with properly, there may be harsh consequences. Therefore, when there are work exhaustions in the IT work environment, it is likely that there will be depersonalization of the workers(Shih, Jiang, Klein, and Wang, 2013). Also, when there are depersonalizations among the workers, the level of personal achievement within the IT workers will go down.
Sequential Development among Dimensions of Job Burnout and Engagement among IT Employees is the third article that focuses on job burnout within the IT work environment. There are various dimensions of job burnout that are present in the IT work environment (Gan & Gan, 2014). The level of IT workers' engagement is primarily related to the job burnout. Also, job demands, resources as well as personality may results in high burn out level among the employees. For example, when the job demand is high, the IT workers will be expected to provide more energy to meet these demands (Gan & Gan, 2014). Also, when there are few resources for use in handling specific tasks, the workers will strain while using them to accomplish their objectives. Moreover, a person with a negative personality may develop a negative attitude regarding the job. In the process, the level of motivation reduces as well as the energy to accomplish various roles(Gan & Gan, 2014).
The third article related to burn out in the IT professionals is the one road to turnover: an examination of work exhaustion in technology professionals. In this article, the authors explain that there is a high rate of turnover whenever there is a high burn out among the employees (Moore, 2000). In most workplaces, there is a high intention among several IT professionals in the event there is increased work exhaustion, which leads to burning out. The findings of this article were based on a study where IT professionals and managers had their data collected. Therefore, the article suggested that most of these IT professionals and managers, who are going through a lot of exhaustion in the workplace, have high intentions of leaving the job (Moore, 2000). Most of the IT professional and managers tend to have workload, which causes them to because exhausted. IT professionals and managers identified that the main reason why there is workload within the IT work environment is inadequate staff members (Moore, 2000). Therefore, the work will not be equally distributed.
Conclusion
Concluding, it is evident that burn out is one of the major challenges associated with the IT work environment. Even though technology has come along with a lot of benefits in various sectors, the main challenge related to it is burn out. Most of the IT professionals and managers handle a lot of complex tasks within organizations. These tasks affect IT, professionals, and managers, as they become exhausted with work. This concept has been researched by various scholars who have published various articles to support the issue. Also, burn out can affect a technological worker may lead to work exhaustion, depersonalization as well as a reduced personal accomplishment. Moreover, burn reduces employees' engagements as well as increased turnover, thus decreasing the productivity of various organizations. Therefore, organizations have to increase the number of staff within the IT environment to reduce the workload and eventually burn out in the IT environment.
