Research articles influence the development of criminal justice public policy by providing scientific, accurate, and unbiased results concerning a specific phenomenon. Notably, policy makers acquire information to supplement their decision-making processes from peer-reviewed research, peer networking, government-sponsored research, and intermediary research and policy organizations such as the China Center for Lottery Studies (Park, 2018; Liang & Lu, 2010). The above sources of evidence are more comfortable to comprehend, applicable in local settings, and credible.

As a Criminal Justice Leader, Does the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) give you a Reason for Concern? How/Why?

The NCVS provides a reason for concern associated with its sampling design since it is susceptible to errors. Unlike its predecessor, the framework collects extensive data on victimization, which makes it inefficient in obtaining information concerning low-incidence events such as rape, sexual assault, and school bullying. As a result, Kruttschnitt, Kalsbeek, & House (2014) note that the Bureau of Justice Statistics has to consolidate multiple years of data to provide crime estimations concerning a subpopulation, which hinders its accuracy.

What are the Advantages of the NCVS Versus the Uniform Crime Report (UCR)/National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) Data?

The NCVS was introduced to complement the uniform crime report (UCR) and has many advantages compared to its predecessor. Firstly, NCVR produces data on multiple crimes, characteristics of victims, circumstances leading to felonies, and victim description, unlike the UCR. The UCR provided data concerning limited crimes such as homicides, commercial offenses, arson, and misdemeanors against children (National Research Council, 2008). Secondly, the NCVR incorporates both reported and unreported offenses while UCR is concerned with arrest data.

As a Criminal Justice Leader or School Safety Leader, Does the "'Snitches End up in Ditches' And Other Cautionary Tales" Article cause you to Act? In What Way?

As a criminal justice leader, the article "Snitches End Up in Ditches' and Other Cautionary Tales" motivates me to act in such a way that I promote trust and integrity between law enforcement agencies and communities. Bias among police based on status quo, race, and ethnicity forces various individuals, especially the youth, to develop specific mantras (anti-snitching codes) that encourage them to solve conflicts by themselves since they perceive formal authority as ineffective (Mosher, Miethe, & Hart, 2010). Despite the Bible advising Christians to resolve their disputes before approaching the authorities, I believe that young people should appreciate formal conflict resolution methods to allow police to prevent repeated illegalities (Mathew 5:25).
