The gang that is chosen in this case is a Street gang that is located in the United States. This gang has over 1000 members, and each of them is given a role. The gang is made up of youths who abandoned their homes are ready to take part in any illegal activity to make ends meet (Blumstein, 2002). Many of them are not able to get any form of employment as they have been ruined by the use of drugs.
Many youths opt to join gangs because of the kind of idleness that they have after they are done with the college education. The economy is currently tight, and the number of job opportunities that are available for the youths has gone down, the rates of unemployment have gone down, and the only option that the youth have is to join gangs so that they can be able to settle all their bills. There are youths have started families while still young, and they still do not have a stable source of income. Joining gangs makes them be in the right position to access all the resources that they need and in a manner that relieves them from all the pressure and stress that is imminent among the employed individuals. The gangs have members who have contacts and channels through which the rest can be able to get jobs that provide them with fast income which is what they need. For instance, the ladies who have kids at a very young age find the gangs to be the best place to get the funds that they can use to sustain all the pressure that they are facing in that line.
The youths also join gangs as that is where they feel that they will get a sense of belonging and loyalty. The youths are at a time when they need all sorts of acceptance the gangs are designed in a way that they can accept them having in mind that they come from different backgrounds. The gangs tend to offer a sense of identity to all the members, and in that case, they get all the attention and status that they need. The youths are made up of a group of people who always want to be recognized in all the things that they do, and they are likely to get it the gangs. For instance, many kids have not been able to get strong ties with their family members due to conflicts or being ignored when looked from an in-depth perspective. In that case, they opt to turn to gangs so that they can get all sorts of companionship. The gangs, therefore, act as substitute families where they get all the affection that they have not been getting from the family members.
Conclusion
The most effective way if combating or responding to gangs would be by making sure that all the parents spend time with their children. The youths are people who need maximum attention, and the only way to prevent them from taking part in gang-related activities can be by providing with all the time that they need. It is good to listen to the children and given the appropriate affection so that they cannot opt to seek it from elsewhere. Parents are supposed to be trained in how to be good observers so that they can identify gaps that need to be filled between them and the children. The family is supposed to act as the source of love to the youths so that they can be able to get all sorts of protection and guidance as they are a vulnerable group that needs all the basic needs.
