Introduction
Inequality has been an issue of concern as it affects many people in different daily aspects. On the other hand, the stare has an important role to ensure social values are adhered to. Gender relations and society are crucial to social development. In this aspect, I shall focus on the several roles played by women.
The state creates policies which in one way or another undermine some of the genders and this makes them to suffer. The state plays an important role in determining how systems are governed. Women have been discriminated for quite some time (Bosak, Janine et al. 115). The state through the drafting of laws and policies some of the inequalities have been addressed. This helps to maintain some form of justice to address the challenges facing citizens. Through the policies, the welfare of women has been uplifted as they can be independent.
One of the historic moments was in the year 1984 when a woman bishop was elected in a major religion in the US. She was termed unfit to hold the office as she was a black woman and some even opposed her nomination. The fact that she was a divorced woman brought a lot of contention to many people. Despite all that, she was the bishop of San Francisco where she led more than a hundred thousand congregates. To show the determination of women role in the church in the year 2000 three more women from the African origin were elected into leadership positions in the church.
Fundamentalism and Control of Women
Women have been agents advocating for social change which they have advocated in many platforms like social media. Just like the LGBTQ women are fighting for their rights in many aspects as in the church. In religion, women are valued and thus not discriminated like in other areas such as politics. Language is an important aspect in facilitating gender oppression. Through participating in the church women have become leaders and thus their dignity has been elevated compared to when they were viewed as objects in the society.
In Latin America, the issue of equality is a matter of concern and they lead in politics where women all allowed participating equally. In other countries like Brazil, women have been able to rise to leadership (Bird, Robert, and Frank, 23). Those women who became leaders diverted from the roles which the society accords them. The home responsibilities began to change and the women started to be looked as bias. The women who took over leadership were criticized on personal traits.
In religion, women have been empowered and have got a place where they have been accepted as well as comfort. Many of the women have been condemned because of behaviors like abortion among other bad traits. In America many of the women as they grew up they got involved in Baptist convention. The women have taken the responsibility of pastoral leadership in the church and this has helped wives to submit to their spouses.
The issue of gender has existed for quite some time in many societies over the world. There have been many changes in both the political and church settings which have helped the advancement of women. The women rights have been advocated for many decades and this has helped them to grow. Today the modern woman is more enlightened compared to those early times.
