Introduction
The diagram presents a star topology that uses ethernet. In the diagram, the ISP WAN service has been presented. All the network devices in the LAN have also been clearly labeled. The ISP Service device has been connected using a cable modem. The switch is connected as the central communications node. The LAN router has been connected to the ISP WAN service device to provide the system with various capabilities, including software firewall services, DHCP, QoS, port forwarding, and NAT translation. The managed switch has been connected as a centrally-located device, and the switch connected directly to the LAN router. Apart from that, the seven end nodes, such as the network printer and six desktop computers, have also been linked to the central switch. The Ethernet cables are used to connect the LAN router to the central switch, ISP Service device, and seven end nodes, including the printer and six desktop computers.
The hub switch has been centrally placed to provide convenient wired network connectivity for the printer and six desktop computers. The switch also provides adequate control for all other devices connected in this system, including the ISP service device, and the LAN router. Each node has been linked to separate cable for easy management and maintenance. The system connection makes it easy to locate problems suppose they occur because the cable failure may only affect a single user. Apart from that, the system also makes it easy to extend the network without causing disturbance to other users in the system (Bisht & Singh, 2015). The network printer is placed at a strategically accessible location so that users of each desktop computer can utilize it when needed. Since the system accommodates six desktop computers, one system printer can be used by all the six users. However, the location should be adequate for each user to access it anytime they want to produce a document. The wireless router is also located in the most central place in association with the six desktop computers to ensure better network connectivity to all users. The ISP service device is also connected to the central switch in a strategic position to enhance easy control of the network connectivity. The ISP service device is strategically located to provide users with an adequate opportunity to access, use, and participate in the internet. The ISP device completes the installation and provides sufficient access to the internet by all users.
In this facility, the users will need to use desktop computers to access the internet to perform various tasks such as doing research, sending and receiving email, viewing and streaming videos, and playing games. The users may also need to develop documents and print them using the system printer connected to this system design. The desktop computer users will need to access the printer for producing documents. Therefore, the network has been designed to allow convenient access and connectivity for all devices used in the system. The strategic location for both the printer and the switch is to allow for the easy access and use of the desktop computers for various purposes. In addition to the use of desktop computers, the users in this facility will also use their cell phones to access the internet. For that reason, the LAN router has been incorporated into the system to provide wireless access and connectivity to the internet (Bahl et al., 2016). As a result, the users will be able to access the internet quickly and more conveniently using both desktop computers and cell phones.
