Introduction
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! It's with great pleasure that I take this time to present my speech in this auditorium. I believe everyone here wishes to live a healthy lifestyle but who in this auditorium feel like sometimes drugs can be a blessing when you start but later turns to be your greatest curse? When I started smoking cigarettes, I would never imagine life without it, hence this provided me with illusionary stimulation and support. But due motivation I finally revised my attitudes towards the life of smoking with my life goals and priority. As a result, I quitted smoking.
Once again, I would like to point everyone's attention to another serious life obstacle, which affects not just our society but everywhere in the world. What I'm trying to emphasis on is alcoholism. Alcohol consumption remains the biggest issue whereas smoking is becoming less popular among people. According to research from the united states center for disease prevention and control, it was found that approximately 50.7% of adults are regular alcoholics. About 12.9% of adults were found to drink frequently. This can simply imply that about 63% of adults in America consume alcohol (Gustafson et al., p.578). Before you start questioning my concern on the topic, allow me to introduce my thoughts on this topic and why it's of great importance to me. This speech will help you understand the effect of alcohol consumption on our body, dangers of alcoholism and finally the risk of cultivating advertisement by alcohol brands.
Effect of Alcohol Consumption on Our Body
Now that we understand the topic it's not a secret to say that alcohol affects the human body in a very negative way. This includes both male and female bodies in general despite the fact that the effects may differ. Among the main effect is liver cirrhosis and also the influence on birth rates and the overall national health. You might question me why I said that but let me explain. According to a research it was found that alcohol consumption reduces male's testosterone level, which greatly affects sperm quality and libido. Conceiving a healthy baby becomes demised drastically (Gonzalez-Reimers et al., p.140). The drug also affects the male's self-confidence and self-esteem. In women alcohol can have a great effect on the menstruation cycle, hence child conceiving becomes highly affected. This can be considered as one of the main factors that affect birth rates and population in general. Other effects on our bodies are cancer, diabetes, and poisoning.
Dangers of Alcoholism
The next point I would like to make is on the dangers of alcoholism. Most of us who consume alcohol disregard the factor of falling into a trap. This creates a gap between real alcoholics and them. My opinion on this is that drinking is drinking. You can start with a glass of wine for relaxation after a hard week. But this I consider this as a feeble motive. Who said that life will not be hard and stressful tomorrow after you sober up? According to logic, you will find yourself drinking more and more often because gradually you will find reasons to drink. But this according to me is a direct highway to alcoholism (Crews et al., p. 1534). Perhaps, we even find ourselves saying "I can kill for a beer" but just remember you letting the drug take control of you.
The Risk of Cultivating Advertisement by Alcohol Brands
Finally, the risk I'm about to explain might not be so obvious but its quite dangerous. What I mean is the cultivating advisement of alcohol. These include brands like Jack Daniels, and captain Morgan just to name a few. The commercials associate life success with drinking. For example, you can hear, whiskey is for business people, champagne is for celebrities. Vodka will calm you down and give the confidence to approach any beautiful woman. But what I would like to my audience right now is to think in a wide and different perspective (Le Berre et al., 130). If grown-ups get hooked up to this, how will the young generation distinguish right from wrong?
Conclusion
Ladies and gentlemen as I come to the end of my short speech. I would like to emphasis on the problem alcohol poses to our life's. In my mind what makes me more concerned about alcoholism is the negative impacts on our bodies and its impact on our unborn generation. Also, youth vulnerability and being brainwashed is a major concern to me. I would call everyone who attended to reflect on the problem and perhaps even have a revise of our attitude towards this ideal problem and help in solving it. It starts with you.
Thank you for your time and attention!
