What?
What surprised you? What challenged your thinking? Describe what you experienced. What feelings came up for you during this experience?
I was surprised that one does not have to be good at complex mathematics for them to pursue a career in accounting. I always thought that accounting would be difficult because of the complexities involved but the speaker highlights it as simple addition and subtraction. I was challenged by the overall aspects of accounting such as being a good leader and having impeccable communication skills. I always thought that accounting does not require such aspects since one sits behind computers handling graphs. Therefore, I was challenged to ensure that I developed such skills in order to pursue accounting. I felt excited about the prospects of a career in accounting since the speaker presented it in ways I had not thought of before.
So What?
What do you know now that you didn't know before? What was most valuable for you? What do you understand better about yourself?
I now know the differences between hard and soft skills. I had never heard of these aspects in the field of accounting. I gained knowledge about the role that each set of skills plays in this field. I found the fact that accountants can work anywhere most valuable to me. For instance, I was happy to learn that accountants were the least impacted by the economic recession and could still work anywhere. I found this valuable because it indicates the market demands for this career. I understand that I have the skills that can make me a good accountant. I thought about my strengths and discovered that I have both hard and soft skills. For instance, I am analytical and creative at the same time.
Now What?
What do you think you will remember from the experience? What might you do differently next time or in a similar situation? What will you probably verbally share or demonstrate with others in the future? What would you like to take from this experience and apply to a future experience? How can you use the knowledge and skills you now have in other settings?
I will remember that there are many careers I can choose from in case I pursue accounting in the future. Ideally, accountants can work anywhere they wish because of the demand for their skills. In the future, I will be keener on creating a balance of all the skills required in this profession. I would tell people who are not geniuses in mathematics not to be afraid of having prospects in accounting. I would take the need to have tangible knowledge in a particular field and balancing it with social skills to any future experiences. The video opened my eyes to the need to create a balance in order to expound one's opportunities. I can use this mentality in every other aspect of life to ensure that i can connect with people as well as showcase the hard skills that I have. I will also make use of the intrinsic rewards that emanate from everything I do and put aspects like satisfaction and experiences above money.
