Nursing is one of the personally rewarding and emotionally fulfilling careers. It has excellent job options with a wide range of areas to concentrate on as well as a strong salary. Graduates in the nursing profession enjoy a wide range of activities that are geared towards safeguarding the life of diverse patients. Just like any other professionals, nurses have dreams and aspirations (Presti, 2016). Different people also have different opinions related to the nursing profession. There are individuals who need to advance their career while there are also other people who are entirely attracted by the gains in terms of financial provisions. Every individual needs healthcare and as a result of the ageing population and the reduction in the number of nurses in the workforce, it is easy to refer to as recession-proof. Irrespective of the challenges in the learning and professional life, I see myself fitting into different IOM future nursing recommendations.

The increase in the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to eighty per cent by 2020 is an effective step that is geared towards improving the level of professionalism as well as competency in the nursing profession. With the current degree program that I am currently undertaking in nursing, I believe that I will be among the nurses with the baccalaureate degree. Again, with the skills and knowledge that I have and those that I am currently acquiring in my profession as a community nurse, I see myself fitting into the IOM future of nursing since the skill that I currently have and those that I continue to acquire will make me suitable for the position.

Currently, I am undertaking a master in nursing, a program that I will finish by the end of the year and thereafter enroll in the PhD program. As a result, by the year 2020, I will be through with my PhD program, a scenario that will make me be among the number of nurses with the doctorate by the year 2020. With the experience that I have and continue to acquire before the year 2020, combined with my masters and PhD program, I believe that I will be among the top nurses that we are recommended for numerous responsibilities in the healthcare industry. The lifelong learning among the nurses is essential for improving professionalism and level of competency (Cherry & Jacob, 2016). Currently, I am working as a full-time nurse and part-time as a student, this makes me engage in the lifelong learning thereby aiding in the improvement of skills as well as professionalism.

Conclusion

Based on my education level at the moment, I opt to work as a community nurse, although there are many options apart from the community nurse which I can undertake as a degree holder, I believe that working as a community nurse is the best option for me given that I want specific experiences in this area of concentration. By increasing my level of education, I will be able to become competent and also increase my level of professionalism in the current job market. In every profession, increasing the level of education is important as they always get the opportunity to perform advanced roles in the organization (Presti, 2016). Therefore, by increasing my education level, I will be able to adopt advanced practices in the future of nursing. Based on the skills that I will have acquired, I will be able to engage in the diverse medical practices aimed at taking care of the patients with different conditions.
