Or the case of one's career, there comes a time when it reaches a transition point requiring that one retires from the job space and acquires newer roles, opportunities, challenges, and expectations from the society as a senior citizen. In this regard, retirement s preceded by retirement transition composing a period an individual is psychologically and behaviorally distancing oneself from the career world and joining the mainstream older citizenry acquiring new identity as a senior citizen. Therefore, retirement transition has a great impact on the development of an individual. It is because the person is changing modes from being perceived as a potential and energetic worker to a senior citizen, devoid of official job duties, confronted with new challenges and life experiences as well as different expectations from the society. Such impacts dealt on an individual as a result of the retirement transition are the influence on one's wellbeing, life satisfaction impacts, impacts on self esteem, autonomy and independence, physical health, one's basic financial resources, cognitive ability, as well a social support of the retiree from and to the society (Broderick et al. 2015).
First, retirement transition has a major impact on the status of an individual. It happens in the fact that one is in the process of totally staying away and distancing from any kind of workforce. In this case, a person is interacting with a new environment in the society with its whole science of activities ad uniqueness. They include the expectations of the society form such a retiring individual in the retirement transition phase. The person is faced with new challenges, opportunities, and expectations from the society. Hence, he/she develops into a senior citizen placed in the realm of the advice givers since they are considered as being more experienced and in the know of various wise tackling techniques of challenges in the work life. The person, therefore, has graduated from the activity of work to a less active life balancing undertakings in the society. Hence, retirement transition is seen as impacting on the development of an individual.
Additionally, retirement transition impacts on the well being of an individual. In this case, the person is slowly sliding into a less industrious facet of life. The health state of an individual might change and in this case, more prone to a slight deterioration or improvement depending on the previous experiences of work and body adjustments. In this case, the body is now free from the hectic obligations and duties of the workplace. Hence, one's well changes accordingly, developing into different orientations befitting the new atmosphere. Also, one's sense of independence and autonomy change and develop into ways aligning with the retirement atmosphere. The person becomes autonomous since the rules and regulations governing the workplace are devoid. Hence, retirement transition has a notable impact on the development of individual's well being and autonomy.
Also, the self-esteem, life satisfaction, and financial bases molts into different forms, characterizing development impact in an individual, during the retirement transition. In this case, the financial capability of an individual might change in a state lying in the balance of the retirement benefits and the previous amount of salary. Also, an individual might get more satisfaction in life or fail to secure an interest in the retirement, impacting on his/her development. In such instances, retirement transition can be seen as impacting on the development of an individual.
