Response to # 2

I agree with your statement that inhaling and exhaling breathing concept have been used precisely as a metaphor to explain interpersonal communication. Inhaling concept represents the process of inward communication or listening while exhaling concept represents the method of outward communication or speaking. Moreover, during the inhaling process, there are different factors which influence the effectiveness of the process either positively or negatively. Attentive listening, perception and other attributes of listening determine the effectiveness of the exhaling process from the speaker. Therefore, Perception is defined as the ability to interpret thoughts, ideas, and feelings from a speaker.

Perception is considered as the primary determinant in interpersonal communication between two parties. In regards to interpersonal communication, it can be said that one gains attention to the speaker with how perceives the information. The information you receive, the way someone reacts to someone, the way someone speaks, the attention someone gives determines your perception towards someone.

A different mode of interaction in interpersonal communication context brings about various types of relationship. There is two mode of relationship which includes open and closed relationship. Having an open relationship with someone affects the exhaling and inhaling process positively since the person can listen attentively and ask questions. Moreover, having a closed relationship influences the interpersonal relationship negatively since the person doesn't have the freedom to open up and exhale information to the listener. This hinders self-presentation and self-verification which is critical in interpersonal communication.
