Introduction
The Earth temperatures have been increasing in the past century to concerning levels. Global warming and climate change is a critical issue in society. The countries and international organizations have expressed their concern on this matter with conventions organized to reduce the alarming rate of global warming. Scientists have predicted the earth temperatures will continue to rise for a long time. Evidence of climate change is everywhere, from the melting glaciers in the Arctic Circle to the varying climate patterns. However, one still wonders, is global warming that bad? Are there any positive effects? The research paper shows the positive impact of global warming and if they are significant in determining its impact.
Global warming has opened the areas previously held by glaciers to sport fishing. Many people now travel to the North Pole. With the increasing water volumes, the fish reproduces well leading to their increase in number. Global warming is, therefore, a welcome boost to recreational fishing. Also, by lengthening the growing season, global warming is expected to impact on agriculture in different ways. An increase of the growing season could lead to more food production while areas such as Siberia that do not allow cultivation could be agriculturally productive in the future due to global warming (Liu, Lam & Chang, 2017). Warmer seasons could also reduce the deaths caused by cold temperatures. Global warming, therefore, has considerable positive impacts.
However, the increase in temperatures could lead to serious adverse effects. The increasing water levels from the melting ice could mean the lives of the people who live along the coast in danger, even some cities being submerged. The shrinking ice also leads to an increase in the amount of harmful gas such as methane being released in the atmosphere. The rising temperatures also allow insects that cause diseases such as mosquitoes to multiply, leading to more cases of infections. Hurricanes are likely to be more severe, and heat waves are expected to hit many regions of the world. Nothing would make life on earth unbearable than unpredictable weather and climate patterns (Harvey, 2016). Although global warming may have a positive effect, they are nothing compared to the harmful impacts. The positive results do not matter, and hence they can be overlooked.
Climate change was very critical in the lives of early people. The oxygen levels varied in the past to enable the development of human beings. Also, cooling and drying in the early stages of evolution allowed early humans to adapt in areas other creatures would not (Harvey, 2016). Climate change played an important role in making people what they are today. Animals that could not adapt to the varying climates ended up becoming extinct, giving humans a better chance of survival. Global warming, therefore, had positive impacts in the past, and we should not, therefore, be worried by an increase in temperature. Life on earth will change from the way we know it, with several animals becoming extinct because they cannot deal with the increasing temperatures. In Scotland, several types of plants had disappeared by 2017 (Flierer, Warzawski &Zhao, 2017).
Conclusion
Global warming has had severe effects on life, with more impacts expected in the future. There are both positive and negative impacts in this matter, with many people usually overlooking the positive results. From a historical point of view, climate change has had many advantages and disadvantages. There are dangerous effects of Global warming, and one cannot help but overlook the positive impact. The positive results are nothing compared to how global warming can destroy the whole planet. Humankind may have survived through the changing environment in the past, but this time it may not be possible. We should, therefore, join hand to reduce global warming.
