Monday February 5, 1975

It is now seventeen days since I returned from my trip to Eastern Europe. It had been a very confusing time for me, trying to soil out my mind what happened in those two and a half weeks and also because of my role in the trip. I feel bad when not trusted while they might fight and sacrifice and some are believed to never going to make it. It is very frustrating and I always feel depressed at the thought and memories of those two weeks. Because you see while we were there, we were always so busy travelling, seeing, trolling, and a little sleeping that we never had any real time to analyze and comprehend all.

I am in the mood to write about my trip before I become too contemplative because actually the trip was lots of fun and rarely did we feel the sadness while there, that is what I find most amazing.

I have tales about we that are initially introduced as we. Thinking that the group that travelled with us to the Eastern Europe. Unofficially we were organized by WUJS- that is the Wale University of Jewish students but that rally meant very little. Officially (practically speaking) we were in groups of eight friends who had meet in North London.

I left Israel on December 25, 1974 and met Barry and Mathews in Northern London

We reviewed our policies and encroachment using commodity. The Russian war took 2 and a half and we viewed them the day before we left. The Russian we knew for their tactic and guess it is meant to discourage tourists or maybe intimidate them a condition we soon came to know while teaching.

For our Russian trip, we only had to submit the exposed of the first two pages of our passports. We were happy with this since it will not draw attention to the domestic visits that some of us had. The Russians do not stamp your passports nor do they allow keeping any part of your visas. We tourists and Russian visited, but Tom had his Xerox sophisticated where we were summoned at the Russians.

In London, we had several meetings of the so called visitors, as well as other meetings with different people. Most important meeting was that Tom held and lived at the Islamic embassy in London. Barry and I had met with people from the Forest Ministry in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and the people in honor were women. The counselor of the Israeli embassy met with us for several hours.

Perished.

From time, we went to the ghetto itself. After the war, Warsaw was destroyed and it was impossible to remove all the rubble. In the ghetto especially is evidence of this, for the new apartments are all about a feet above ground level. You paid the new buildings, but in the ghetto waiting of the day, your emotions are tougher. We came to the large Warsaw memorial. It uses the catch of water places. To the right is the top of a fewer apparently that is why many left the ghetto those who were successful. The memorial itself is overpowering since one of the parties had the strength of fighting.

To know that at least the memorial was being seen and was not in the outcast of the city to be together.

Barry, Matt, Rom, Andrew and Matthew went to the Jewish cemetery but it was closed. Tom, Keith and I walked boldly to some of the old part of town where we looked in some stones and walked along the new banks.

I went by myself from the old city to shun from one place to another. I was still wearing my favorite sandals and for the first time I was feared to be seen with it on. I think that I took it off for a while, but soon put it on again. Barry, matt and Nathan were already at shut. It was a typical serve 3700 leathery, whiskey and bread. Muscles sharpen to that to us a little and so did the other. The old man was moved that we learnt how to sing Naquin and we bended for them.

While we were at slur Tom and Rom were trying to root out the train tickets. We had train tickets on a non existence and since we had to enter the Soviet Union at a modern port on a certain day, we had very little room and opportunity to make alternative plans. But with the help of a new CRBS man, it

The lack of sleep mentally catches up with its unmoved nation. We were all attires thus this morning at 10; 00 am, Tom and I walk and I was still very tired. But I was annoyed at myself for not going to shed. I felt that I had come to Russell to lead and to experience and not to spend time in a hotel bed - immediate thought. It was still rather dashed out at 10:15 am where it dashed out of the hotel window.

Our Int tour begun at 10:30 am and for the first time we were not the only people on our guided tour. There were some other Americans with us- rather dull people.

I dont remember much of the tour because I slept most of it. However, I recall watching interesting lads. Truthfully, Remmegrad was a very beautiful city the most beautiful those that we saw, with the possible exception of Tililisis. There are many museums and out galleries and Qlns and that some of them would be interesting wait if even returned to the Soviet Union. Same day maybe..

The previous night we had made arrangements with the watchman and Unshei to meet infront of the Herritage at 2:00 pm. Thus Burry, Matt and I did. While we were waiting there for them, we noticed several interesting people staring at us. I guess that we might have looked as might suspicious. It is hard to believe that both of them can still be happy and careful Knowing how repressed their lives have become. Nathan is delight and says that the only reasons that he has not yet been released is because his Professor and Institute boss are both Jewit and sympathetic to alliyals.

While we waited in the lobby of the heritage, Nathan wanted to look for a friend who worked as a guide in the museum. I looked around for ten minutes by myself. There is really very little that can be said about the building. It is really phenomenal architecturally sweeping staircases spent inches and many rooms. When Nathan returned he was followed by a girl was notably Jewish because she spoke no English but always stared and smiled at us. Andrew told me that she too had applied with her family.

When Nathan returned he was followed by a girl was notably Jewish because she spoke no English but always stared and smiled at us. Andrew told me that she too had applied with her family. Her father had been a diplomat, he spent 15 years in the Stalins camp, and now was preferred of Stalinist History as meaningful. She tried to get us into the Heritage Gold rooms (appointment was needed one month in advance) but it closed at 2:00 pm and we were too late. She ordered us to meet her later at 4:30 pm where she would finish giving a tour, Linchez knew a lot about art, and knew her way around the Heritage. She took us to her favorite locality where we two large rooms divided to the words of Pearsse, Matthews and George? The men had some of toulous of Tabous and Mr Van Gogh to vaty the least. I was impressed by the extensive collection Pearson and Matthews. Each painting had the date persecuted on them and not the one proceeded 1917. Otherwise the artist might claim that they were modern art forbidden of course on their land. Linchez paid both the Matthews and Pearsons collection had come from the private collections of the land and other wealthy individuals and were argumented by the gifts of the artists themselves. Matthews kept insisting that it was impossible that the paintings were from before 1917 and some must have been from the later periods, with false dates on the plague beneath the painting. Perhaps

We walked through the Egyptian collection (after being mesmerized at the ROM and at the British Museum, I confess that they all looked alike.) and other collections. I bought some portraits and later that evening Nathan mussed a gift from him - a book about the heritage at 4.30, the guide ( unfortunately I forgot her name) met us. She was with a friend who Nathan whispered to me was a Hippie because he had longest hair and sunken lips, Nathan...
