Reading Festival Reflective Essay

On the twenty-fourth of August 2019, I attended a Billie Eilish concert at the Reading festival. The festival was held on little John's farm in Reading, England. I have always been a Billie Eilish fanatic for a very long time, and I was excited by the fact that I would be able to attend a Billie Eilish live concert. I have always connected with the type of songs that Billie Eilish sings, and thus I could not afford to miss an opportunity to see and feel her performing live on stage. This concert was a chance for me to interact with other Billie Eilish fans and share in the happiness and joy of seeing her perform on stage. I could have chosen any other concert, but this one appealed to me because the performer's songs relate directly to the issues and challenges that the youth undergo in their day to day lives. I, therefore, find it fulfilling and satisfying to listen to Billie's Eilish songs. Attending her concert would thus be a more significant and more intense way of listening to her songs and enjoying her music.

The concert was done during the day in the open air. The midday sun thus helped in ensuring that there was sufficient lighting throughout the show, and both the musician on stage and the whole of the massive crowd present were visible. The performing stage was well organized with enough space for the musician to move freely and dance. Furthermore, the stage was strategically placed to ensure that the audience gets the best view of the performing musicians. The crowd present was so massive it was difficult to see where it ended. The people were excited to attend the concert.

The crowd present was very energetic and did not at all mind the hot weather. The people were continually singing together with the performer, and this aided my listening in the concert since the music was amplified, and the experience was more fulfilling since the people sang their hearts out. The involvement of the crowd was a good thing because otherwise, the people would have gotten weary at a very early stage of the concert because of the hot weather.

The type of music performed was vocal, whereby the performer herself sang specific songs that she had initially released in her produced albums. Just as expected, the singing and overall performance of the artist was splendid, and she did not in any way disappoint the crowd. The performer had so much energy and was happy and delighted to perform in front of so many of her fans. She connected with the mass and made them enjoy every single part of her fabulous performance. Her vocals were great, and the instrumentalists present, including the drummer and guitarist, did a great job of providing a fulfilling music experience.

She gained much popularity after she released her single known as "ocean eyes" in the year 2016. The song release that Billie is most known for is "bad guy," which was released in the year 2019. This song is the one which climbed to position one in the billboard replacing "old town road."

The genre of songs that Billie Eilish sings is mainly pop music. She has released several songs that have been well received by her audience, and she did a collaboration with the known singer Khalid back in 2018, and they both released the song "lovely." She has a brother, Finneas O'conner, with whom she grew up (Thefamouspeople.com, 2019). Her brother mostly takes part in producing her music. Billie Eilish has eight gold singles and four platinum singles.

I entirely enjoyed the Reading concert because everything was perfect and to my expectations. The show took place during the day and thus was accessible to many people. The midday sun provided ideal lighting of the arena, and I could easily see the performer on stage. The crowd was so energetic and ecstatic, and they sang together with the performer, and this made me feel as though the music and I were the same. All these situations made me enjoy the concert, but the main reason why the show was so much fulfilling was the performer. Billie Eilish sang her heart out and connected with her fans in all possible ways. Her vocals were excellent, and she delivered her best to her audience. She was delighted to perform and seemed to enjoy every bit of her performance on stage. She had so much energy and kept the audience lively.

I applied listening skills taught in class and interacted well with the audience and the music. I listened to the lyrics, and the messages contained in the songs sang at the concert. I always knew that songs often had a hidden meaning, and attending this concert enlightened me on how to relate with the message passed by the singer.
